He described it as "this wooden O" due to the circular design. This broke away from the traditional rectangular shape of theaters in that time. Performances were advertised through playbills posted around the city, and they took place during the hours of daylight when the weather was suitable. Admission was very inexpensive as the best seats boasted no more than one shilling ($7 today). The cheapest seats in the house costed only one penny (60 cents today) where guests stood around the stage with no cover from the rain. Plays usually lasted around 2 hours.
