A nice house, good car, be able to afford to send their kids to college, occasional family vacation,  be able to retire safely at 65, and of course overall happiness. It is far more complicated today than it was during the Great Migration.

  • What does the American Dream mean to you? 

    • It is really that matter of being happy and having a job you love because you can’t live your life doing something you don’t love

    1. Has that meaning changed throughout your life?
    Yes, when I was younger, I used to get caught up in the useless things. You can’t do that because when you’re as old as me you’ll regret it
    1. Do you think that you have been able to achieve the American Dream?
    Yes, I went to beauty school and worked as a hairstylist. I also worked at a dress shop in my younger years. I married your father and life was good. We had our ups and downs financially, but it was all worth it because we got 2 fantastic children and 5 of the most beautiful grandchildren ever
    1. Were our ancestors able to achieve the American Dream? Yes
    2. Once they came from Italy, they were happy to be here. They were all carpenters, tailors, barbers, and furniture makers. They were talented and worked very hard. Eventually bought their own houses and made their own families and it was form pure hard work.
    3. Do you think it is harder to achieve the American Dream today than it was in the past?
    Yes because there is too much diversion and there are too many politics and too hard to get a job. It’s about who you know, not what you know.
    1. Do you think I will be able to achieve the American Dream? I sure hope so
    2. What are the steps that you think I need to take to achieve it?
    Brown nosing helps, but mostly working hard and don’t accept no for an answer. They say you can’t, you say you could. Work ethic has worked for all of your ancestors and it is noticeable. Live within your mean and patience is a virtue
    1. Do you think the American Dream is achievable for any American regardless of their background (social & economic class, race, sex. orientation etc.)? 
    2. Why or why not? I think everybody starts from the same place and have the same chance and it’s about playing your cards right.
    3. Is it harder for some than for others?
    Well if someone has a disability, it is harder. However, there are people that overcome it and reach high for their go and achieve it.
