Women in concentration camps were often gang raped in front of others. These acts of sexual violence could lead to impregnation. The conditions of giving birth were extremely unsafe and painful. The area was dirty and crowded, the mother was unfed, and they didn't have access to proper medications. The baby could be killed, raised in the camps, or taught to hate their parents by Nazis.

Prisoners in concentration camps were starved and many died of illnesses left untreated. These people were and are humans and this treatment was done to them by people who were and are humans. This goes to show how those who think they are above others have gone to stoop so low as to torture and dehumanize fellow human beings that bleed the same color red they do. Even though it may not be this bad, antisemitism is still present in the media and society today, so bringing awareness to previous inhumane treatment and the torture many people had to endure can also bring awareness to peoples ignorance to see others as fellow humans.

Elizabeth Woodward

When people were being taken to the killing center they were forced to get on the train cart. If someone refused to get on the cart and ignored the rule of the military then they would most likely be killed on command. When people were taken on these train carts they had no food or water all throughout the trip. The little space in the cart was very tight and crowded. They would typically try to fight as many people in the small box as possible. Sometimes people would not even make it all the way to the killing center, of dehydration, starvation, and diseases.

-Andrew Pierce, and Joel R

He doesn't have his family or friends to help him through this journey. When the Nazis took him and his family, he was scared for what was ahead of him, but at least he knew he had his family with him then by his side. Once he got separated, he felt alone. If he survived on his side and his family didn't, who would take care of him? He could also be too scared to do any work and get punished, shot, or beaten to death.
-Kammy Bloom

This picture is important because it shows that it wasn't just adults but also young kids. So they also had to suffer through starvation and their lives were threatened every single day and they would be taken away from their families and could do nothing about it. Some of these kids had to grow up and some even spent up to 6 years in these camps for the duration of the war. These things need to be remembered so no more kids have to suffer through this and these things need to never happen again.

The Jews oppressed in the concentration camps were put there against their will. They were frequently beaten and treated with unimaginable hostility. Members of the SS-Totenkopfverbände, who were in charge of the camps, murdered prisoners randomly and without reason, and no one could do anything about it. Conditions at the camps were abhorrent, and a lot of the Jews died of diseases, overworking, starvation, and hypothermia. Morale in the camps was awful, mostly because of the fact that non of them were informed of the current status of the war, so they thought it would never end. By the end of the war, the Jews that had survived either died of malnutrition, diseases, or past ailments from the camps, or were left with horrible memories that would haunt them for the rest of their lives. - Brody Stewart, Jake Cranford, Tanner Powers, and Tim Moore

This is an important picture depicting the holocaust because it shows how bad the Nazis were. They even took innocent children that might've had no idea what was going on. They then realize they are in the middle of a war and are part of a camp that kills people like them. These camps include some of the worst people in history that treat them extremely inhumanely. These innocent people are helpless and are almost guaranteed no escape. Even if they tried escaping, they would most definitely get killed. Kids like these are the victims that deserve a life without persecution. We should remember victims of the holocaust like these people because of their important lives that got exterminated.

These photos show just how much disregard for those who are living and those who are dead. Nobody got a proper burial, those bodies were used as examples. To show those who resisted, the very likely consequence of their actions. They left people hanging on the gallows for days, forced prisoners to watch as people were murdered. They were then forced to bring those people to a crematoria or a mass grave. Friends had to bury friends. Families had to bury other relatives. This is a testament to just how brutal these camps were.

Our group can't even tell whether the person shown is male or female. The person just lays there helpless with no hope no sign of happiness. It looks as if the person in this photo just waits till their death. Till all the pain just goes away. The guards thought that hurting the Jews would kill them faster from injuries that haven't been looked at. Many Jews were killed by gas tanks. Gas tanks are these big rooms with tiny holes in the roof. Jews were crammed into this room, the Nazis locked the heavy steel door, and poisonous gas was sent through the small holes and suffocated all that was on that room.

This picture shows a tattoo that was a part of a Man's body until it was skinned off by the Nazis and then used as a decoration on a wall of their quarters. Along with the horrific deaths of innocent people, these victims had everything taken away from them, even body parts past their death. The Nazis didn't care about you, your family, or what you have done; they practically waited for these people to die and took their stuff for fun. It's disappointing that a person could take someone very meaningful from another person without any consequence, even being promoted for doing so. This inhumane treatment took more than what was physical; it took people's spirits, memories, love, and will to live. Antisemitism or other forms of discrimination cannot be accepted as we might lose the great things we have in life because of it.

At a certain point in the history of the Holocaust, the actual voices of the survivors are replaced by those of their children and others who take on the task of preserving memories, and one of the key new genres in this phase is the book of historical detection.Sometimes the investigating narrator does not even know they or their parents are or were Jewish, let alone victims of the Holocaust. Certainly, the driving force of the narrative is the search for clues and then the working out of interpretations. Was a horror that could be barely even glimpsed and then only through the cracks between his fingers. The term “Holocaust” became popular after the airing on NBC of a four-part fictional miniseries on the subject called “Holocaust” in 1978. The cast included Meryl Streep. Many holocaust surviors, including some of those who came to Houston after WWII, were never held in concentration camps. The star of David is very important to the Jewish people and their faith, and the Nazis made them hate it. By slowly dehumanizing the Jewish people, this badge would become a badge of shame.
All of the Death

This is a pile of bones found at the Buchenwald concentration camp by U.S. soldiers. This picture of the Holocaust shows all of the death of mostly Jewish people at these concentration camps. The Nazis in these German concentration camps would do such things as work them to death, gas them, line them up and shoot them, and leave their children left to die from starvation or getting eaten by rats. And those aren't all of the horrible things that they did. Also, Jewish people weren't their only target. The Nazis also targeted people that were of specific political parties like Communists, Socialists, Social Democrats and other non-political groups like Gypsies, Jehovah's Witnesses, gay people and apparently people that acted asocial. Cruel would be an immense understatement when describing the things that they did.---------------------------------------------------------------------------------Alexander Benton

kids living in ghettos

This picture of this young boy who as you can see is surrounded around many people, possibly because in these ghettos where Jews had to be put while waiting to get deported into a camp. Since they were waiting in these small broke area they would be so many of them just wait for what was next. They lived in places of a capacity of 100 and there be around 500 of them just crowding. This was the start of overcrowding, severe starvation and disease. But this image caught my eye because hes extremely skinny and you can also see this kid lost all expression, and I believe this is very sad because kids should be happy, playing. Not starving with no food and waiting for what is next for him and his family.

natalia rodriguez
