a personal experience of mine was i turned into a person who decided to settle for the passing score than trying to achieve the very best. as you've probably heard by now, it is true that ust will ruin you, break you down, and make you question if you're meant to be here.

and I hope whenever those questions arise in your head, you are able to assure yourself. you're able to tell yourself that you passed here because of the simple reason na kaya mong lagpasan mga yan. you are meant to be here and never let anyone say otherwise.

despite finding chaos in the never ending academic stress, I hope you all find peace within the people, the community, and the university.

please remember to enjoy, not only sa academics. you are more than just numbers written on a report card. you'll be fine and we'll be with you throughout this journey.

I'd like to share mga tips/suggestions to survive ಥ⁠╭⁠╮⁠ಥ

 - Don't be afraid. I know some of you are shy pa and will be adjusting to a school new environment. But, Don't be afraid to try and explore new things. Don't be afraid na sumagot sa class discussions, sumali ng orgs,  and meeting new people. Don't be intimidated if someone is much more smarter than you that will make you feel that you're not good enough, remember that you are learning and growing. You have your own pace.  Your journey in UST will be filled with adventures, so you really need to be confident enough to face and try new things. :))

 - be humble and friendly. Marami kayong mamemeet na iba't ibang students/teachers/staffs coming from different strands and also sa main campus. So it is important to keep a positive attitude towards people that you'll meet along the way. Also sa blockmates nyo, because two years kayong magsasama sama, so it is important to have a healthy block. Also sa profs nyo, most of the profs are considerate naman and mababait,  so make sure to approach them nicely and always greet them pag nakasalubong nyo sila sa hallway 

 - Ask help. Ask help if ever man  nahihirapan kayo sa subject.  As a block, no one should be left behind, so if anyone is needing help, i hope you guys will be able to help each other. (Effective toh lalo na sa stats,polgov at genmath ahehe).

 -  take a break/rest. This is really important lalo na pag dumating ang hell week (month/s?◉⁠‿⁠◉),mag sasabay sabay ang due ng petas, quizzes, homeworks, recitations, but make sure not to overwork yourself,listen to your body.  well, hindi maiiwasan na magpuyat, mastress, pero remember to take care of yourself, okay??. Then after you take a break, make sure to get back up and continue.  

 -  Enjoy. Enjoy every moment, every minute, every second!. Magugulat nlng kayo, seniors na kayo in a while^^. Make sure from time to time, find ways to go out with your friends, watch UAAP  events, attend school events, or spend time with yourself. 

 -  pray. Even if your coming from different religions, I believe that God is good to all of us and I know that He will guide us in this journey.

There's so many things you can do in UST to make the most out of it. Explore the main campus, participate in student-led events, join organizations, connect with new people, and ace classes! Aim for greater heights in your SHS years, it carries on even after you graduate.

Make memories; fill up your gallery with pictures to look back on! All you gotta do is put in the effort and try!

Treat it as if it's a game or test to see if you can prove something to yourself.

If you can conquer UST, you can conquer ANYTHING!

• MAKE SURE YOU'RE AWAKE AND ALERT ENOUGH TO AT LEAST PROPERLY READ THE PLACARD ON THE VEHICLES.

  You spend around 10 hours in classes in one day. It's tiring, it makes you sleepy. But PLEASE have enough energy for the journey home.

Commute safely and defensively, freshies!

Aim to be disciplined. Ust WILL eat up your time.

As much as possible, try not to procrastinate. If kailangan nyo ng Intense Fighting Music for bgm then go! Don't put off tomorrow what you can and you're able to do now. Tomorrow will give you new sets of things to do. Better to clear out your daily stuff 💪

Always live in the moment. You only get the USTSHS freshie experience once, so make the most out of it. Don't regret getting that ankong or dimsum after class, gala after a hard quiz, and so much more.

Whenever you feel like a small fish in a big sea here in USTSHS, you are here for a reason. I am so proud that you've made it here and never forget to look back at how far you've grown!

The line that actually helped me overcome hardships was "This won't matter in a few years." Because it's true!! Time waits for no one and it's over before you know it.

Your friends will be the people that'll help you through it all, but remember that you should also help yourself. Take breaks, eat right, and don't forget to have fun. UST SHS will teach you a lot. You might get culture shocks and that's okay 🫵💝.

I know you can do it; of course, we'll be here to help whenever you need us. You are not alone in your battles. Always remember that it is normal to want to give up. I've been there before and still am, but I've learnt a few things that I can share with you.

Going out is ALWAYS the way to go, creating memories is just as important as getting the “honors” title. Set boundaries and know your priorities, but always remember that rest is just as important as everything else. So, every now and then, take a step back and forget about everything else. Just take a breather.

To save you the pain and disappointment some of your seniors have experienced, expect that it won’t be the case while you’re in UST.

Maybe in Elementary or Preschool you had a 90% chance of having high marks in your grades, but in here, without staying up late at night to study the same material over and over or consuming every lecture material in the blackboard, you always have a 50% chance of getting a passing grade.

You can slack off and live your childhood in high school, but in here, you’re adults now preparing for college and eventually the real world.

You are going to fail at some point, it’s inevitable. You know it’s going to happen but experiencing it is going to hurt SO MUCH.

But when it happens, don’t let it consume you. There are 2 semesters, each with 4 quarters. Even if you fail one of them, there is always redemption. Use your anger, sadness, fear and disappointment to do BETTER.

Ok, you got a line of 7 or 8 for the first time in school. You would feel like a disappointment or you’re getting dumber, you feel like your classmates are better than you. And all that imposter syndrome phase. The fact you’re studying in UST is enough reason that you deserve to be here just as much as everyone else. “Grades doesn’t define intelligence”. Remember, you get good grades by how much you have learned. DON’T study just to get a 90, study to LEARN and to KNOW.

The next semester rolls around, what are you going to do? DON’T REPEAT YOUR MISTAKES. Before, you didn’t study the lecture enough to fully remember what the teacher taught. NOW, take down notes during lectures, read in advance and ask questions if you don’t understand. Be friends with your classmates and initiate study group sessions. Learn to make time for studying and for enjoying your adolescence.

Having friends would seem like a distraction because all you would do with them is “chikahan” or “gala”. But honestly, it’s the best moral support you would get. They are going through the same thing you are, overcoming the same problems and experiencing the same things. You have a chance of helping each other by studying together so why not? You would bond over failures and be there with each other during triumphs. These would be the friends you will have for a long time, so don’t miss the chance.

And also, don’t forget to PRAY. He is always there for you, in a form of a star, the trees, the sun or the people around you. Listening to your cries, and being with you during your happiest smiles. God planned for you to be here, so trust in His plan as much as He trust you.

To end this, just remember that this is serious now. This is SHS. In 2 years you’ll go to college. Expect to fail some BUT EXPECT TO WIN TOO. Use your mistakes to learn to do better. Use the disappointment as strength to be better.

Enjoy the 2 years with your friends and classmates because it will go by fast. But don’t lose sight of your reason for being here. Your dreams are waiting for you, so WORK HARD to earn them.

DON’T GO IN IF THE ELEV IS GOING DOWN AND YOU WANT TO GO UP. Nooo roundtrips. The ate guards and kuya guards are stationed in the ground floor so if they see you coming from a top floor to ground floor and you didn’t get off, they will scold you and ask you to get out of the elevator and let the other students enter. You will waste more time waiting for an elevator in the ground floor than just waiting for an elevator in your current floor.

TRAFFIC IN ELEVATOR DURING LUNCH. Lunch rush pretty much starts from 12:00 nn to 1:00 pm so if you don’t want to get caught in traffic, go up earlier than that or go later than that. Or suffer climbing up the stairs. It’s not that bad actually, it’s good exercise unless you have asthma or just not athletically inclined.

The best place to wait for an elevator is in the library. ITS MOSTLY QUIET AND SPACIOUS.
