It is difficult for me to comprehend the terrors of poverty and economic woe that have befallen your family.  As both you and I know, the soberingly volatile position of your family are not alone.  I am continuing to employ different programs meant to restore the economy to its good health, through the funding of different groups and investments.  I do not believe that direct aid would do good upon Americans' mental inclinations, but of course I am first and foremost both empathetic and responsive to your troubles.

 I am very sorry to hear about the troubles of your town. The Great Depression is hard on everyone especially those who are supposed to be supplying our country with food. Unfortunately I can not give special treatment to the farmers in your town. People can not be dependent on the government to fix their financial needs. I suggest you come together as a town and try to help each other. Keep your hopes up, the worst is behind you and before you know it everything will get better!

I appreciate your concern for the less fortunate and definitely see your point of view. However, this administration would not be able support this unless elderly in question would be able to give back to the economy. As we would love to help, this isn't a sound investment. There may be some local aid in your aid that may help with your issue.

The roots of liberalism grow from equality of opportunity, meaning I cannot specifically assist one particular person. My efforts must be for the good of our country as a whole. You will be enchanted to hear that I intend to implement changes that will likely help your situation, as they are aimed at rebuilding our nation's agriculture. I will be giving large appropriations in order to rebuild the tracts of agriculture and farmland that were decimated by the drought. I wish you the best.

I understand your troubles and I would like you to know that the Federal Government is doing everything in our power to help you and your community. I'm glad to hear that the Keystone Hook and Ladder Company has helped many families. The government is hard at work building public buildings and repairing the floods. You are the true definition of what an American should be. Your care and the aid that you provide to those in need is exactly what we need from our citizens. The care and charity that you are providing will help us get out of this tough time and into the prosperous age that is just around the corner. Unfortunately it is very difficult for me to authorize a program specifically for the aged people of this country. The best thing that you can do in your community is to continuing volunteering your services to aiding the aged. On thing that you can definitely do to help this situation is convince others in your community to help you care for those in need. Charity and volunteer service is the most critical thing anybody can be doing to support out country.

I'm sorry for the troubles you're experiencing, and those in North Dakota, but I truly believe that this is only a slight economic downturn and it will be resolved soon. In the meantime, focus on your own economic freedom to do what you see as fit for yourself. On a country that was built on the self-reliance of man, it is only expected that you must be able to independently deal with this issue, as our founding fathers did in the past. I wish you luck, and encourage you to participate in any of the programs that have been previously set up by the federal government, but I cannot give a handout to the public like you ask, because where will I draw the line after that? I hope you understand my message, and I wish you luck.

It is in fact very unfortunate that you and your fellow farmers have faced problems with natural events like hail storms and obviously with the economic state of our country. Although I cannot help with the environmental problems you are facing, I certainly can help you with your economic problems as your president. With my proposal of the New Deal, people like you will be better accounted for. I will ensure more support and economic improvements towards farmers. I sympathize with your cause and I understand where you are coming from. I am well aware of Americans that are unable to support themselves, especially the elderly. I soon wish to put in place a system of welfare for the elderly when they reach a certain age. The elderly have worked hard and lived a long life, they deserve some type of severance and meals. Thank for bringing up this issue.

The work you are doing of elderly people of the community is wonderful, I too share your sympathy and believe the government to be responsible for coming to their aid. As for the people of your town who are unable to help themselves, I believe in funding such programs that will allow for these people to gain spending power and wealth, a feat that would ultimately flow into the private enterprise as well as the rest of the nation. After all, a very large portion of our nation cannot currently help themselves; how can a nation function with such a large portion of its people in need.

I am deeply sorry that your borough of Muncy, Pennsylvania flooded. The Federal Government must provide emergency relief and temporary work for you and your community whenever possible. The Keystone Hook and Ladder Company and the American Legion, Roland Ritter Post 268 seem to be doing a good job. I'm glad to hear that your immediate distress is being taken care of; that families were relocated, livestock were rescued, hot coffee and food were distributed, and emergency sleeping quarters were established. Our next step is to build up a basis of permanent employment, and since I am pleased with the way that things are being taken care of, I will write the letter.
