Major behavior issues can be resolved with careful planning and being proactive. To prevent behavior issues, teachers can confer privately with potentially disruptive students to put them at east and review classroom expectations. They can also create contingency plans for various behavior scenarios that might be likely to arise throughout the day.

Effective teachers maintain alertness and vigilance during lessons, putting out behavioral fires before they spread. There may be trouble brewing if a teacher notices, for example, a group or pair of students crowded together and talking intensely, a student who has been unengaged for an extended period of time, multiple students glancing at one another and smiling at a certain location in the classroom, or students giggling or whispering when the teacher's back is turned!

TECHNOLOGY and NOTICING POTENTIAL PROBLEMS....

Take advantage of polling technology to help you notice and respond to potential behavior issues. If you sense trouble brewing, ask students to rate their feelings about adhering to classroom rules and procedures. Alternately, ask students to rate the extent to which their behavior reflects adherence to classroom rules and procedures. Use the results to encourage class discussion. If attention is waning, prompt students to log into their online reflective journals on google drive or evernote to record their feelings and brainstorm alternatives to disruptive speech or behavior. Pause the activity and ask student to write down conditions or circumstances that may be causing them to act out, along with 2 or 3 favorable behaviors to enact instead.
