I had an activity with my high school students on June the 1st - the international children's day. I was (happily) surprised to see that some of the girls brought books as gifts to their friends, for their international day just a few weeks before going on vacation. Since not all the participating students received gifts, I considered appropriate to supply with a few more books and pens for everyone. It was such a joy! I am lucky to have wonderful students, passionate readers and generous young people in my school!

The Little Prince by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry

The story is philosophical and includes social criticism of the adult world.
Though ostensibly styled as a children's book, The Little Prince makes several observations about life and human nature. For example, Saint-Exupéry tells of a fox meeting the young prince during his travels on Earth. The story's essence is contained in the fox saying that "One sees clearly only with the heart. The essential is invisible to the eye." Other key morals articulated by the fox are: "You become responsible, forever, for what you have tamed," and "It is the time you have lost for your rose that makes your rose so important." The fox's messages are arguably the book's most famous quotations because they deal with human relationships.

In the warm warmth of an afternoon at the end of June, with the sun coming in through the windows, here, in Calabria, in one of the most peaceful places for me, my grandparents' house, comfortably, and perhaps sprawling, sitting on a chair, I am transported in the second half of the fifteenth century, in full Renaissance... I seem to be there, next to him, in Vinci, then in Firenze,… thanks to this rich and analytical book about his life. A journey for the mind and the spirit.
