  • Communicating a repair guide you have to take into account the viewer is not an expert in the repair and it's your responsibility to provide an in-depth guide that covers all possible issues the viewer might face
    • The general process of replacing the inner tube of a bicycle tire was not difficult. However, there were subtle details that if missed could result in a lot of time wasted and added difficulties.
      • Difficulties could range from:
        • Tire getting stuck between the brake pads
        • Not being able to remove the outer tire off the metal rim
        • Putting the outer tire back on the metal rim
        • Placing the tire back between the brake pads
  • I realized early that my experience with repairing a bike tire could very well be different from others. This had a dramatic change in the outcome of my guide. I was thinking from the viewer's point-of-view not my own, the difficulties one can face. 
    • To check if I was on the right path I went over this step constantly
      • A peer reading a guide and providing constructive criticism
        • I had one of my close friends read the guide multiple times for feedback
        • She pointed out certain steps could be more clearer and some needed an explanation for why I was doing what I was doing
        • That criticism and advice both led to massive improvements on the overall quality of the guide

  • Researching obstacles that impede completion of this task
    • There are multiple ways to change the inner tube of a tire, the objective was for me to find the easiest set of steps which can then be conveyed to the viewer
    • I read multiple repairs guides on external websites and watched a lot of YouTube videos to gain more knowledge about techniques used to make the repair experience better and easier
      • These techniques range from different tools that can be used to unscrew bolts on the axle, having the bike rest on its handlebars upside down for better support when pulling the tire off, etc.

  • Finding information on discrete devices only known to medical professionals was quite challenging. There were a limited number of resources on the device on the internet. 
    • I used keywords such as "portable ventilator" and "mass casualty event" along with the general name EPV100 to limit search results so they could be more specific.
    • This strategy helped to find different resources on the internet which allowed me to provide more in-depth knowledge regarding the device

  • Like a lot of research projects, we consume a lot of information regarding the topic but during the presentation we have to choose tidbits of information that would be beneficial to the viewer. This device page was no different. 
    • After noting down all the information from the research section, I had to choose which notes should be published on the device page. Granted I had thousands if not millions of device page formats on iFixit so the general format was not unknown. 
    • Using the numerous templates I was able to narrow it down to key selective notes such as:
      • The dimensions of the device (how it can be identified)
      • When is the device used?
      • How is it used?
      • How is it beneficial to hospitals and doctors, etc. 
  • The formatting and communication of the page was not difficult as I was stating just informative information regarding the device, no further information was needed from my part.

  • A big part of this project was to read information I was not familiar with. It was challenging because there were many in-depth papers regarding the EPV100 on why and how it used. Referring back to these articles would have been a daunting task.
    • In order to be more efficient with my time, I decided as I read the numerous articles, I would note down the information on Notepad so they can be referred back to when I needed them.
    • These articles were then referenced underneath the Additional Information header on the device page along with a URL reference to that point in the device page
