My school's philosophy will be based on a combination of Social Constructivism and Connectivism. These two learning theories will be at the heart of everything we do, along with the non-negotiable requirement for teachers to constantly strive in helping all children to feel included in all school activities.

Children will be encouraged to work collaboratively in mixed ability groups whenever possible, allowing them to enter into discussions and debates and ultimately problem solve as a team. These group discussions will, at times, be 'Scaffolded' by the class teacher or other adults working in the classroom, (such as Teaching Assistants and parent helpers), however children will also be encouraged to support one another depending on the differing levels of knowledge and understanding that already exist within their group. By doing this the children with the greater understanding will cement their knowledge by assisting others, as well as provide them with increased social confidence and sense of pride. Whilst on the other hand children with weaker understanding will be supported in closing the knowledge gap in a natural learning environment, through open discussion with their peers.

The School's philosophy will also be strongly linked to Connectivism, allowing us to adapt to the ever changing world of technology and teach children the different ways we all access information. Children will be encouraged to use technology to answer questions as well as to broaden their understanding of topics and subjects be taught in the classroom, this can be done either individually or in groups.

Advantages of Technology

Technology allows for creativity & freedom of expression.

Technology aids in socialisation and relationship building.

Technology allows for independence and empowerment.

Technology improves problem solving and perseverance.

Technology enhances learning.

Technology helps instil an entrepreneurial spirit

It will be of the upmost importance that all school employees are constantly striving to create a school environment which allows every pupil the opportunity to feel included in all activities.

"Inclusion is a basic right of everyone and its objective should be to embrace everyone regardless of race, age, gender, disability, religious and cultural beliefs and sexual orientation. When we have true inclusion, it is when we have removed all barriers, discrimination and intolerance. When implemented properly, it should make everyone feel included and supported, whichever environment they are in." (Lekh)

By having inclusion as our schools key philosophy it will advantage all pupils, not just those with SEN.

"Creating an inclusive environment will not only help those students with learning differences, it will also support those students who don’t have a learning difference by making them more aware, tolerant and understanding of each other."
(Lekh)
