The Portico of Glory is a piece of Romanesque art located at the western entrance of the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela. It was sculpted by Master Mateo and his workshop between the years 1168 and 1188. It is famous for its complexity and for representing scenes from the Apocalypse and the Last Judgment. The Portico's relationship with the apostle Santiago is deep, as the cathedral is the final destination of the famous Camino de Santiago, a Christian pilgrimage route. In the Portico, Santiago is represented welcoming the pilgrims, symbolizing the entrance to Jerusalem. Furthermore, the figure of the apostle Santiago is highlighted in the central arch, where he is shown in a welcoming attitude, as the host of the cathedral.
