The Westing Game is a book that describes the events that take place after the death of Sam Westing. They showcase many of his relatives all trying to win what they believe will be his left behind fortune. All of these relatives live in the same building, a luxurious apartment home on the shore of the Great Lakes. They attempt to solve many complex riddles using hints he left behind for them. Sorted into pairs, the groups of Sam Westing's family relatives work tirelessly to win his over his money.

The Watsons Go to Birmingham--1963 is a story about a family, named the Watsons, who venture down to Alabama in hopes of teaching the oldest son, Byron, how to behave. After spending a significant portion of the summer in Birmingham, Byron starts to act differently towards his family, Kenny specifically. This is mostly due to the traumatic experiences his family perseveres through while visiting Alabama.
