The Cultural Revolution was when Mao had sought to consolidate his power, eliminate perceived capitalist, and maintain the purity of socialism. Its methods had involved the mobilization of Red Guards, the persecution of intellectuals and party officials, and the destruction of cultural artifacts and institutions.
