Several children that became orphans during this time of the Revolutionary War were traumatized and became withdrawn, and the appeared numb and unresponsive or sometimes some became mute. When the danger and devastation end, children can show remarkable resilience and recovery if they are in a safe and stable environment where they are cared for an nurtured.

Anne Marie Pennysworth Clark:
Dear Admissions Committee,

It is my great pleasure to recommend Anne Marie Pennysworth Clark for admission to your program. As her school counselor for the past four years, I have seen the amazing changes that Anne has made to our school community. I see that the scholarship is intended to go to someone who demonstrates strong leadership skills. Anne Marie Pennysworth Clark fits these guidelines perfectly. Not only is she an excellent and hard-working student, but she has dedicated herself to enriching the lives of students around her. Anne is truly special for her compassion and commitment to helping others. This past year she took on the primary responsibility for our school role in the Enterprising Young People program. She collaborated with business students in tailoring the program to our student population. I believe that Anne

Sincerely,

Ms. Cobb and Ms.Rodriguez
School Counselor's

Samuel Smith:
Dear Admissions Committee,

It is with great pleasure that I write this letter of recommendation for the truly exceptional Samuel Smith. It is rare to meet a student with as much compassion and self-awareness as Samuel. I'm truly amazed with all that Samuel has accomplished, and I feel that he is one of our most determined, caring, and balanced students. His enthusiasm is contagious when you speak with him, as his face lights up when she speaks about his friends, family, education, and ambitions for the future. I've been especially impressed by his fearlessness in making friends and participating in class. Samuel speaks with maturity and sophistication about world events and talks about his desire to promote multicultural understanding and peace among all. Samuel has my highest recommendation. I know that he will continually impress you with his involvement in the school community, his international perspective, his unshakable resilience, and his focus on his academic and career success. I am excited to see how far his educational and professional journey will take him in the future. In conclusion this is my recommendation for Samuel Smith

Sincerely,

Ms. Cobb and Ms.Rodriguez
School Counselor's

Abner:

Dear Admissions Committee,

I have had the pleasure of meeting with Abner on multiple occasions over the past year. Abner is always cheerful and vibrant young man with excellent academic and social skills who is sure to have a bright future ahead of himself. Abner has a wide variety of interest, ranging from reading to soccer. His main interest, however, is building and maintaining relationships with family and friends. Abner is a humanitarian who has volunteered his services at his church and his town library. As a high school student, Abner ranks within the top 35% of his class and has constantly challenged himself, taking both Accelerated English, and AP Social Studies courses throughout high school. Abner is in soccer and he shows a true passion for it. This semester, Abner has been given the opportunity to gain real-world work experience and interim as a bank teller. His go-getter attitude has helped him gain a sense of independence and prepared him well for life after high school. In conclusion, this is my recommendation.

Sincerely,

Ms..

This book starts of with Samuel(he is thirteen). He lives in the British colony of Pennsylvania. Samuel is really good at hunting and being in the woods it is like as if he is one with the woods. Then rumors come to where Samuel lives. The rumor that they hear is that the American patriots have begun a war against the English. Samuel doesn't think anything of this because the civilization in the east seem to far away to affect him or his family or anyone that it there with them in there settlement. But then Samuel comes back from hunting in the wilderness even though he hasn't caught anything and he finds that the war has come to him. There has been an attack by the British soldiers and the Iroquois and the cabins have been burned, and the people that live in the settlement have been killed. Then he discovers that his parents have become prisoners. Samuel uses his wilderness skill to track where the British and his parents are going because he has to save his parents. Throughout his journey he always comes almost face to face with the enemy and almost get's caught. And when he does he ends up saving himself or get saved by some nice people. Then along the way his meets people along the way that are secretly working on for the patriot. Then finally at the end he discovers that to save his parents he is going to go into the British territory. So he follows them all the way to New York City(which it the British headquarters at the time) And he has Abner help him and Matthew get him across the river and to safety where they meet Annie asleep.(Annie was an orphan the came along with Samuel on the trip when Samuel saw her parents get killed by the Hessian s. In the end they go to Philadelphia where they are free from the British.

Write a 5 sentence summary for your book.

We chose lonely by Christina Perri becuase we felt that since this song seems to be very sad. It also seems like the persons perspective who is singing this is lonely and went through something very deep. We chose this song becuase it seemed to represent Anne Marie Pennsworth Clark becuase she gets reallt sad when he parents get sad and she might think she is lonely. But then even though samuel comes to her in the woods and lets her come along and he seems like an older brother but as she grows later on in philidelphia she might still remember her birth parents she might still feel a little lonely later on in life so this song might descibe he feeling/thoughts.
