The audience for this song is People who are lonely and may not know what to do about it. Purpose of the song is expressed two different ways based on media. The first way being in the lyrics talking about how isolation hurts. In the YouTube video, there is more of a happier vibe expressing don't get down and move forward. This means due to being isolated he needs someone to be there for him or to comfort him in his isolated state. Second use of ethos is the line "If I pick it up and I know that its broken, do I put it back?". This metaphor talks about how you have to decide if a friendship/relationship is worth repairing. In life sometimes break ups happen because their meant to happen, those friendships or relationships are the ones that won't work. The final use of Ethos is in the line "Or do I head out onto the lonesome trail and let you go?". This describes the alternative option to the line described earlier, breakup. In life, we all have to go our separate ways and its usually for the better. It will benefit both members of the relationship, it will be hard at first, but eventually you will be happy about it. Second use of Pathos is the line "See the state I'm in now". This is stating that due to the speakers isolation, he feels depressed. Feelings can affect behave towards others either in good ways or bad ways. The final use of Pathos is in the line "That's why I'm calling you". The speaker is trying to get someones attention, to help him with his isolated feeling. Depending on the person, they want to talk about their feelings with a close friend and try figure out a solution to get themselves back on track.
