The Giver by Lois Lowry

This book is appropriate for middle school grade level and up. Lowry gives a sense of disturbing visuals of a dystopia society that hides under the vision of a utopia. It follows a young boy, Jonas, who has been given one of the most important roles in the society - to hold all of the world's memories and emotions - in order to create an "equal" world. This would be a good book to teach students about what really is the idea of perfection and how a world can be without color or emotions.
Read in 2013
