Lowry gives a sense of disturbing visuals of a dystopia society that hides under the vision of a utopia. It follows a young boy, Jonas, who has been given one of the most important roles in the society - to hold all of the world's memories and emotions - in order to create an "equal" world. This would be a good book to teach students about what really is the idea of perfection and how a world can be without color or emotions.

Shelley tells a tale of a mad scientist with a god-complex. He becomes obsessed with creating life, and he does so, but only to figure out how much it would come back to haunt him. This book would be a good discussion book in the risks or dangers that can come with playing God.
