I liked this assignment because I liked being able to talk about a topic and share/compare information with other people. Also, I learned more by talking with other people, than I usually would by reading the textbook myself. I felt that the discussions were informative, and that everyone was prepared, but not everyone participated equally. For the future, I think that we could try to go in chronological order instead of skipping around, and make sure that we ask others for their opinions to get others talking.

The harkness discussion was very helpful. It allowed me to go back to the text for different reasons than to study and at the same time it helped me learn more about the information. The discussion went smoothly, it started out rough but it got better as we got more used to it. I think the smaller groups helped people become more confident speaking up. Although there were still shy people we incorporated them well. There was a lot of confusion sometimes and it was hard to control the group when we all wanted to say what we wanted to before someone else says it but everything became a lot better as we went on. The question that was at the end seemed to scare a lot of people because it was the whole class so I would add it to the individual groups instead but it does help people get rid of stage freight I suppose.

I enjoyed this activity because it allowed for us to analyze the text more than we do when reading and writing our outlines. The groups went well for being the first time doing this type of discussion, but for the upcoming discussions we need to think about previous chapters so that we can elaborate and connect the information. This will make for a discussion where we can use the historic thinking skills and develop new ideas and concepts. This can benefit each student because each person will be able to bring different points to the table. It would solve the problem when there were questions that did not have much information to elaborate on. This activity was a great way to learn the material and I feel as if it will benefit our tests scores and when we take the exam in May. The exam will have parts where we have to possibly compare two different concepts and how they relate, as Mr. Kendall has mentioned. I hope to continue doing the Harkness Discussions because it will help us grow in many different elements such as speech/fluency, articulating the points brought about in the text, and connecting different time periods etc.
