- The Akan religion is polytheistic, and these gods, called the abosom, hold power over their believers but are inferior to Onyame
- Ancestor veneration and worship play a big role in the religion, and they serve to encourage unity and morality within the tribe
- The Akan people believe in spiritual immortality. The souls of newborns are emanations of ancestral souls or reincarnated past lives.

- Some versions include Anansi Kokoroko “the great spider” and Odomankoma “infinite inventor”. Anansi is a huge figure that is included in many folktales, taken in the shape of a spider as a wise deity. 
- The symbols that the Akan utilize in their history are called Adinkra symbols. One of them represents the infinite power and spiritual presence of Nyame, their supreme being of worship.

They receive a name that has ties with their soul, the specific day they were born, and their potential/function in the clan they’re part of. The ceremony begins in the early morning, where prayers are said and libations are poured, and finally the name is announced by the eldest on the father’s side. It ends with a celebration all together where the child has to drink a cup of water mixed with nsa.
