Puerto Rico is a beautiful place in the Caribbean. The capital of Puerto Rico is San Juan, which is the largest city in Puerto Rico, San Juan sits on the island off the Atlantic Coast. Their main languages are Spanish and English. Puerto Rico is the 57th largest city under the jurisdiction of the US. Their current population in 2023 is 3,260,314.

Emancipation Day is a day where Puerto Ricans celebrate when slavery was abolished in their country. They do this by singing, dancing to Bomba and plena music, and having huge feast. Emancipation Day is also known as Juneteenth. This is celebrated on April 16.

Noche de San Juan is celebrated on June 23, to celebrate the birth of a Baptist name Saint John. This is usually celebrated at the beach but can also be celebrated at the streets. When midnight is approaching, the people line up alongside the beach at the edge of the water, they then face away from the water and walk backwards, dunking themselves in the water, symbolizing baptism.

When comparing my culture to Puerto Rico's, we have some of the same similarities and differences. Puerto Rico has a more of a blend of indigenous Taino, Spanish, African culture and identity. Vietnam has more of a like diverse culture shaped by its long history and influences from other countries like China. When celebrating Vietnam and Puerto Rico both celebrate with big parades and giant feast.
