Climate crisis clocks are operating all over the world to announce the seriousness of the climate crisis problem.
The climate crisis clock is a kind of counter that shows the time when the average global temperature rises by 1.5 degrees Celsius from pre-industrial times due to global carbon dioxide emissions. In fact, if you go to the website, you can check the time when the temperature is expected to rise by 1.5 degrees.
I checked and found that there are about 4 years and 84 days left. I thought we should let them know the seriousness of the climate crisis because it's not much time left. Also, climate crisis clock are installed in many countries besides the website, and I could see that they are also installed in Busan, Korea.
The reason why the global temperature is paying attention to 1.5 degrees Celsius is that the average temperature rises, torrential rains, increased drought damage, food shortages caused by damage to oceans and catches, and more than half of the ecosystems fail to function.
Finally, I would like to share my opinion on the climate crisis.
I remember being educated to recognize the seriousness of the climate crisis since I was an elementary school student. Even though about five years have passed, the climate crisis has worsened and there has been no improvement.
Rather, the Earth was deteriorating to the extent that the changes caused by the climate crisis could be seen around me as the days went by.
Even though many countries have agreements to cope with the climate crisis, the global temperature is getting hotter.
Therefore, I think students should be aware of the seriousness of the climate crisis and respond to it by practicing small things.

Spring, summer, autumn, and winter were clearly separated, so I could enjoy various landscapes and cultures in each season.
However, in recent years, the characteristics of these four seasons have become increasingly blurred.

The first characteristic is the decrease in precipitation in winter and the warm winter.
In the past, it was natural for the first snow to fall in December, but in recent years, there have been more winters where we can hardly see snow.
In the winter of 2024, Gangwon-do ski resorts often delayed their opening due to lack of snow.
This is affecting not only the winter landscape, but also agriculture and water resource management.

The second is the change in cherry blossom season.
In Seoul, cherry blossoms bloom an average of one to two weeks faster than 10 years ago.
In 2021, cherry blossoms were in full bloom on March 24, setting a record for the fastest time ever.

Hello everyone, today I would like to talk about the seriousness of climate change in South Korea.

South Korea is currently experiencing the impacts of climate change at an alarming rate. Since 1912, the average annual temperature in Korea has risen by about 1.8 degrees Celsius, which is much faster than the global average. Especially over the past 30 years, the pace of warming has accelerated significantly, raising serious concerns across the country.

As a result, we are seeing more frequent and intense heatwaves. In fact, in 2018, the average number of heatwave days nationwide reached 31. Moreover, the number of tropical nights—where the temperature stays above 25 degrees Celsius even at night—is steadily increasing, putting people's health at greater risk.

Changes in rainfall patterns are also becoming more noticeable. While the total number of rainy days has decreased, the amount of rain that falls during each event has grown, leading to more cases of localized heavy rains and severe flooding. These extreme weather events are causing serious issues such as urban flooding, landslides, and agricultural damage.

Additionally, rising sea levels and ocean temperatures are negatively affecting marine ecosystems.

Overall, the acceleration of climate change is no longer just an environmental problem. It poses direct threats to our survival, our economy, and our way of life. This is why urgent and coordinated action is needed from all parts of Korean society.
