Students are able to build a strong relationship with reading during this early literacy process. After this module I realize now more than ever how phonics has a big impact on how we learn to really read, write, and speak. There is so much going on behind the scenes! As a future teacher I know that it is going to be a very important skill for me to teach. When teaching multisyllabic words, it is important to begin by explaining syllable categories such as closed, open, and vowel-consonant-e. Using syllable division rules to break down words, and encourage clapping or tapping to indicate syllables. I should teach common prefixes, suffixes, and word families and how to spot patterns. Tons of practice for my students to blend sounds to increase fluency and confidence with multisyllabic words. I want to be able to use fun activities like word sorting and games to help them learn and grow.
