Hello, and welcome to my page!

I am Nur Hidayah binti Mawi, and my matric number is 102002. I am from Samarahan, Sarawak, and currently a second-year student taking a Cognitive Science programme at UNIMAS.

This site is my individual e-portfolio for the Research Methodology course (KMF2024). I will share what I’ve learned about both quantitative and qualitative research methods. I hope you enjoy reading my learning journey!

Quantitative – Content Curation

Quantitative research is all about working with numbers. It helps researchers measure things clearly and logically. To understand quantitative research methods better, I explored several online sources beyond our lecture slides. I started with ChatGPT to get a simple overview of what quantitative research means, then used Scispace to find more academic explanations. I was especially interested in how surveys work, so I searched websites like QuestionPro and Khan Academy to learn about Likert scales and how they’re used in data collection. I also found helpful content on descriptive and inferential statistics because I wanted to understand how researchers analyze numbers. Lastly, I looked into concepts like reliability and validity from Scribbr, to know how researchers make sure their tools are accurate. All of these resources helped me build a solid understanding of how quantitative research is planned, executed, and analyzed.

My learning journey began with a basic curiosity: what exactly is quantitative research? I started with ChatGPT for an easy explanation and then moved to more specific topics like survey design. I realized I needed to understand Likert scales since they are common in questionnaires, so I found examples on QuestionPro and Google Forms. As I learned more, I wanted to know how researchers interpret results, so I explored descriptive and inferential statistics through Khan Academy and blog posts. Finally, I searched about reliability and validity because I wanted to make sure any future research I do is trustworthy. Each step I took was driven by questions in my mind, and every answer I found led me to the next topic. I created a visual mind map to show this learning journey in a clearer way.

Qualitative research feels more personal to me. Instead of numbers, it focuses on people’s thoughts, feelings, and experiences. This method is used when we want to really understand someone’s point of view. For qualitative research, I wanted to understand how researchers collect information that isn’t numbers like opinions, emotions, and personal experiences. I used ChatGPT and Scribbr to get an overview of what qualitative research involves. Then, I explored interview techniques using Bing AI and read articles from Verywell Mind and Scispace. I found thematic analysis especially interesting, so I watched YouTube videos and read tutorials on how researchers identify patterns in text responses. All the sources I used helped me see the step-by-step process of how researchers move from raw interview data to meaningful themes and conclusions.

I started my learning path with the basic question: what is qualitative research? I wanted to understand how it’s different from quantitative methods. After getting the basics from Scribbr and ChatGPT, I focused on how interviews are done in real studies. I searched for examples of semi-structured interview questions and how they are used to get deep responses. After that, I wanted to learn how those responses are analyzed, so I explored thematic analysis and how researchers code text to find patterns. Watching step-by-step videos and reading tutorials helped me understand this better. Lastly, I compared qualitative with quantitative methods so I could see when each is more appropriate. I created a mind map to visually show this learning path and how each step built my understanding.
