Today we did a bit background study of Cytokaire and went through the clinical trial summary of Cytokaire drug as a group. I worked from home today but I was in contact with my group members and were collaborating in understanding the nature of the trial. I did some research on Eosinophilic asthma as well using EBSCOhost database. Link for the journal article is below.

https://mdpi-res.com/jpm/jpm-12-01093/article_deploy/jpm-12-01093-v2.pdf?version=1657093333

we also arrange a group meeting for the next week to discuss further about the trial and share our findings about the reasons for the rejection of this trial.

In week 9, we meet in the group using the CW session time. One of our group member (junaied) could not come because of health condition, but he was constantly in contact. In this week, we split the assignment tasks and everybody was allocated their part to start work on it. My task was to explain the clinical data and biomarkers that were used in the clinical trial. Also, I have to cover and look for better biomarkers that we can use in our trial. After reading the clinical trial summary I noticed that I have to learn about Peak Expiratory Flow (PEF) measurements. So, I read through an article about PEF measurement. Below is a link to the article.

https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/books/NBK459325/

In this week, we had a group meeting and discussed the progress in each task. Also we cleared some of the misunderstood things that we were struggling with, Like in my part, I was confused that if I had to search for a biomarker that is specifically relevant to IL-5 cytokine or could it be any biomarker.

I started my work by searching pathology of Eosinophilic asthma. In pathology part, I have mentioned and explained Th2 pathway.

After Th2 pathway, I had to find some biomarkers that could play role better role in our clinical trial. So after comparing Peak expiratory flow (PEF) test and Fractional Exhaled Nitric oxide (FeNO) test, I came up with a result that we should use FeNO test as a biomarker of eosinophilic asthma rather than PEF test. I made a graph showing why we are going to use FeNO test in our new clinical trial and not the PEF test.

After having discussion with my group members, I concluded using just one biomarker is not enough to get reliable and precise results. So I searched for other biomarker s as well.

Now, we are using eosinophil count and periostin levels in the sputum sample as our biomarker as well. I read through many articles explaining why eosinophil count and periostin are good biomarker in eosinophilic asthma.

In this week, we all had our work almost finished and did the last double checking of each-other's work. We sorted the reference lists. We did group meeting where we started to practice our presentation. In this whole time, all of the group member were very much helpful and responsive. We did work together and did not left any of the member to struggle with their part. From our group, Miss Thanu was really helpful and co-operative. She explained and guide everywhere where I needed help and guidance.
