helped end segregation in public schools. The US Supreme Court decided in 1954 that state and local governments are not allowed to force black and white children to attend different schools. The results of this court case resulted in the loss of thousands of black and brown teachers. The integration of classrooms was not easy and the public education system of the U.S still found a way to keep black children out of white schools. Plessy filed a petition against the judge saying the law violated the 14th amendment. The U.S Supreme Court ruled against Plessy and decided that the racial segregation laws in place did not violate the amendment. The court claimed that as long as each facility was equal it could be separated by race.
