The kids abilities are unlimited and unidentified. Educators and families are a great way to support. Both kids from the videos are having the similarity of having a strongly supportive parents and they also like to keep challenging themselves. As an educator, giving students the environment to build up self esteem and keep student challenging is important. - Jennifer Hsu Jing

What I took away from the video, was that both students had incredible support from their parents, and I love the immigrant story part of it as well. It is true that as educators some of us are parents to these students as well, and we must be ready at all times, in dealing with GT students that tend to hick up now and then. To let them know that it is OK to fail from time to time. We must always be aware of our GT students, in and outside of the classroom. a GT teacher must create some form of solidarity with them, to let them know that they are not alone.

One of my takeaways from the video is that both students had so much support from their parents. You can see the honor and pride in the parent's eyes when they talk about their child.

Dennis Pham

I noticed that Landon credited his HS calculus teacher for this accomplishment. His teacher must have provided Landon with a safe learning environment that helped foster his advanced mathematic skills and problem solving ideas.

Kiley Trahan

My takeaway from both the video and reading is that students can only reach their potential when they have teachers that foster their passions and do their best to meet the unique learning needs of students. We know that not all students have the same needs, but often categorize GT kids as the same. Asking our students for feedback or suggestions to help them be engaged in the learning and content would be an excellent way to find opportunities to differentiate.

Emilee Cavazos

My takeaway was the emphasis on the words "perfect" and "mistakes" in the video. When the interviewer mentioned the word perfect, Landon seem a bit overwhelmed. Both students mentioned that they do not like making silly mistakes and aim for perfection. I wonder if this thinking applies to any mistakes outside of math as well or if the students only mean math mistakes.

One of the main takeaways from the video and the reading is that GT students need a strong support system to help them achieve their full potential. In the video, both Cedrick and Landon had gotten support and encouragement from their parents, which helped give them the motivation and confidence to aim for perfection, at least in this subject. Additionally, in the reading multiple students wrote that they would like it if their teachers took more time to learn about their lives to help teachers make decisions that do not overwhelm students and to help students feel seen and understood. Furthermore, in the interview, Landon also attributed his success on the AP exam to his calculus teacher. You can tell that she has gotten to know him and that he feels comfortable with her. This further supports that students need a strong support system to help them succeed.

Jimena Arroyo-Soto
