To meet the research title and objectives, primary data collection will be carried out through a social media analysis of Instagram contents about two major UK live music events: The Brit Awards and Mercury Prize, both held in London in 2023. The adoption of social media as a research tool has multiple benefits, including fast and low-cost access to a wide range of information (Fielding, Lee, and Blank, 2017). Indeed, SM users generate a large amount of content — posts, comments, likes, shares, videos, photographs, and hashtags — which can reveal information regarding their behaviour (Costa and Condie, 2018). Furthermore, Instagram was selected as the social media platform for data collection due to its significant popularity among adults in the UK, ranking second overall, and its continual growth trend (YouGov, 2023).

Primary data collection method of average social media interactions (likes and comments) in comparison to the participance (followers and attendees of the event itself), across the four most used platforms. The results of this will be analysed against the average engagement rates published online to determine their relative success in marketing with social media. I believe this is the best option for this research topic as we found the gap in the literature to be in quantitative data analysis.

A primary collection method (survey) will be the main data collection method. Surveys offer a structured approach to gather responses from a large sample size, enabling comprehensive analysis. They allow for flexibility in questioning, ensuring diverse perspectives are captured. Overall, surveys are the optimal method for thorough data collection.

Social media analysis is really beneficial for the topic at hand because it is about how social media affects attendee engagement. There are large volumes of real-time data that can be analysed, which saves time that would have otherwise been used to collect participants. This primary data collection method would allow me to research various social media strategies across various social media platforms.

A mixed method approach will be used to meet the research objectives of this study. Primary data of a Social Media analysis will be taken by looking at 10 different high profile Grand Slam tennis players to analysis there mentions, post, and fan engagement. The secondary research will be in the form of critically analysing journal articles on tennis players and fan engagement. Using a mixed method is the best option for this study as it gathers a wide range of data.

Surveys will be the main method to collect primary data for our research. Surveys provide a set of questions and answer options, ensuring consistency in collecting data. As the survey is going to be anonymous, more people would like to participate as they will be able to give honest and confident answers, which is valuable for our research. Surveys generate quantitative data that can be easily analysed to identify patterns, trends, and relationships within the data. Besides that, it is more likely for university students to answer shorter/multiple-choice questions.

I expect there to be several internal reports on Glastonbury's sustainability practices, reviewing previous successes as well as points for future improvements. On each festivals website there will be a 'sustainability' section outlining their own actions and ethos. (e.g. 3 festivals, within the last 5 years)

This will give accurate data and provide insights into why buying behaviours are like this. I will recruit these individuals through Instagram social media platform.
