Kelly Jo was able to work around her inability to hear and participated in cheerleading, dance, and gymnastics. She was the only deaf person in her school growing up, so her senior year she transferred to the Indiana School for the Deaf. She then attended the Rochester Institute of Technology where she received an associate's degree in administrative support technology and a bachelor's degree in marketing.
