The Terracotta Warriors can be considered an iconic artwork by the Chinese because it reveals much about the Ancient Chinese Culture. The warriors were constructed out of terracotta to be used as protectors for the first emperor of China, Qin Shi Haung, during his afterlife. Their faces are all individualized, showing influences of Daoism and the diversity in China. The warriors part of a much larger burial complex called the Mausoleum of the Qin Emperor.

The Funeral Banner of Lady Dai is an iconic Chinese artwork because of the history behind the piece that serves as a window into Han Dynasty legends and funeral traditions. It exemplifies the three plane concept displayed in many Chinese works. The left side of the banner represents the yin, the middle represents both the yin and yang, and the right side represents the yang. The work displays harmony and the supernatural things coming together with the things of Earth. The painted silk piece gives insight into Chinese mediums and techniques while telling a story of afterlife beliefs.

The Longmen Caves are an iconic artwork because they represent Chinese culture in the form of religion, history, and geography. The formation of the caves was commissioned by a Chinese Empress who used her private funds to create this work of art. These caves house thousands of Buddha statues that have been carved from the limestone found within the caves. The Longmen Caves were created as if they were an altar in a temple following the introduction of Buddhism to China which was highly respected by the imperial court along with the carving of rock temples dedicated to Buddha. This work of art incorporates many aspects of Chinese culture in order to create something that is representative of the nation’s identity.

I see Terracotta warriors is seen as my most iconic work because when people think Chinese history they think the "clay warriors". People know that the Chinese emperors valued the afterlife highly so that is why the emperor buried a gigantic army with him. Each of these soldiers and horses were made individually to be personalized based off what they actually looked like. All of the warriors were life size and generals were slightly larger than the soldiers.

The David Vases is an iconic artwork that represents Chinese culture, because the blue and white porcelain can be specifically attributed to Chinese culture. Porcelain plates are often referred to as "Fine China". The rare inscriptions around the neck of the vases and bands of dragons make them easily identifiable as works from ancient China. Porcelain is abundant in China, so it would make sense for there to be a plethora of objects made from porcelain.
