Why do you think families in one form or another are found in every culture? And why do you think there are so many different forms of families?

I think families in one form or another are found in every culture because they can provide simple, emotional support. Families also can provide physical needs like food and shelter. Beyond the physical needs, families offer a different kind of bond. A bond where you can feel safe, and turn to them when you need help. Families also pass down many traditions and knowledge. I think there are different forms of families because of the lifestyle. Either the religious beliefs, social expectations, and cultural traditions. In conclusion, families take many forms because they are shaped by the unique circumstances of each society.

Who made the major decisions in your family? Mother?
Father? Both? Other family members?

In my family, major decisions were made by both of my parents. I do think some decisions were made by a certain parent depending on the topic. My father made more of the financial decisions, but no matter what, they both agreed in the end. At no point were other family members involved. My Parent's thought it wasn't necessary to involve them with something that didn't have to do with them. Would my family members have opinions and concerns? Yes, but they would come to an understanding of the decision we made.

How did you learn about religious matters?

Growing up I was in the LDS church. From a young age, my family emphasized the importance of faith, and religion was a central part of our daily lives. We would say prayers every night, and Sunday school every week. I was part of the young women group, and we would have activities every week that represented the church. As I grew older, I started losing my testimony over the church and questioned everything I did for the church. For me, I still respect the members of the church, but I transitioned to just believing in Christianity.

How were you rewarded?

I was fortunate to grow up with parents who always supported and encouraged me. Whenever we or my siblings accomplished something like making a team, or getting good grades, they would reward us with a fun activity or taking us out to a nice dinner. However, their rewards weren't just material. My parents were always showing their appreciation towards us. Looking back, I’m grateful for how they pushed me towards a strong work ethic, confidence, and the belief that every accomplishment was amazing no matter how big or small it was. My parents would tell us to never give up, and if something didn't go the way we wanted, that it was because everything happens for a reason.
