She is upset because the teacher gives her a sweater from the lost and found that is not hers but she cannot seem to find the words to express that it is not hers. Because all of this occurs on her eleventh birthday, she wishes she was one hundred and two because her eleventh birthday has not been pleasant to her.

This story is set in this grocery store which is where the name for the story comes from. It is about some girls in the store in bathing suits and the employees are oogling them until the manager comes in and tells them they may not shop there without proper attire. The narrator of the story ends up quitting his job because of the way the manager treats the girls and the girls don't even know what he has done. He is only 19 and it shows in his actions as he quits and does not consider the consequences as he does so.

This story was my favorite of our assigned readings. Desiree is found as an infant and raised by the people who found her. She gets married and has a baby and the baby is of mixed race. Her husband assumes she is mixed and that's how the baby came out mixed so he tells her she should leave. She and the baby die in the woods and he then finds out that he is the one who is mixed and he threw away his family for nothing

You lose some of the beauty when it is pulled apart so much and in writing we just need to let the words flow, don't worry so much about what they say

This story starts out rather light and carefree but quickly takes a rather dark turn. Henry joins the military and is gone for over three years. When he comes back, he is suffering from PTSD. He suffers alone for a long time then he has a few minutes of calm and seemingly happiness before he jumps in the river and disappears out of sight. This is such a sad story.

Her mother wants her to be a prodigy but she doesn't even want to try. She ends up realizing she could have been good at the piano if she would have at least tried. The song she plays at the end is symbolic of her struggle. It is a two part song called "Pleading Child" and "Perfectly Contented".

This story tells of two sisters and their mother and the struggles they go through. To me, it is about entitlement. Dee or Wangero as she changed her name to feels she is entitled to take whatever she wants from her mother and sister's house just because she is fancier than they are. The mother finally stands up to her though and gives the family's hand stitched quilts to the person who would appreciate them more, Maggie. Once Dee does not get what she wants, she gets mad and leaves. She seems like such a spoiled brat. In this picture, it shows Dee and her husband standing and the mom sitting with Maggie standing behind her.

Here is a live version of the play. The jist of it is that a man is murdered, his wife is acting very strange and some of the town's people and the county attorney are looking for evidence in her house. The women find a broken bird cage and then a dead bird hidden away. They hide this evidence from the men. There is definitely a bond between the women of this play and the men as well, there is a clear divide.
