The materials needed are toilet paper rolls, mylar or mirrored sheets, scissors, tape, white cardstock, bendy straws, and markers, stickers, or paint. First, the students decorate the toilet paper roll. Second, cut the mylar or mirrored sheets into three equal strips. Third, fold and tape the sheets into a prism and place into the roll. Fourth, cut and tape the bendy straw on top of the roll. Fifth, cut three circles from cardstock, poke a hole in the middle, decorate them and place them on the straw. This activity could be paired with a lesson about light.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Source:&nbsp;<br>STEAM Powered Family<br>https://www.steampoweredfamily.com/activities/build-a-circuit-flower/&nbsp;<br><br>How the activity can be used interdisciplinary with STEM instruction:<br>This activity includes science, art, and engineering. The materials needed are coffee filters, washable markers, plates, water, water dropper or syringe, LEDs, wire, clothespin, CR2032 coin battery, scissors, electrical tape (green), mini solo cup or mini clay pot, and pipe-cleaners. First, color the coffee filter and add water. Second, cut the wires and strip the ends. Third, attach the LED bulb legs through the coffee filter. Fourth, wrap the wire around the legs. Fifth, put the legs onto the end of the clothespin and tape into place. Sixth, wrap the wires around the clothespin and slide the battery into the clothespin. This activity could be paired with a lesson about circuits.<br><br></div>]]></description>

The materials needed are construction paper, coins, and a baking sheet. First, place the paper on the baking sheet. Second, place the coins on the construction paper. Third, place in the sun for several hours. Fourth, bring the paper inside and remove the coins. The UV rays from the sun which break down the chemical bonds in the pigment and dye molecules, making them less effective in absorbing and reflecting light. Therefore, the colors appear faded. This activity could be paired with a lesson about the sun.</div>]]></description>

The materials needed are white vinegar, baking soda, cornstarch, food coloring, tissue paper, measuring cup, tablespoon, and quart Ziploc bag. First, add one cup cornstarch and vinegar to the bag. Second, add food coloring to the bag. Third, seal to bag and mix with hands until cornstarch dissolves. Fourth, place one tablespoon of baking soda into a square of tissue paper. Fifth, open on corner of the Ziploc bag, drop the tissue paper inside, and seal the bag. Sixth, shake the bag gently, place on the ground, and watch. This activity be paired with a lesson about about chemical reactions.</div>]]></description>

The materials needed are five glasses, warm water, sugar, spoons, food coloring, and syringes. First, fill each glass with 1/4 cup warm water. Second, add sugar and food coloring to the glasses (each will require a different amount of sugar). Third, stir each glasses to completely dissolve the sugar. Fourth, transfer the blue, green, yellow, and red water to an empty glass using the syringe. This activity could be paired with a lesson about density.</div>]]></description>
