This is a wonderful resource for a number of reasons. Most importantly it helps us all identify the many important components of the model and also gives us guidance for determining schedules. I ask you to use this "guideline" as you review your schedules. I ask you to use the language of the framework in your schedules (Language and work study/ Reading Workshop/Writing Workshop) This common language helps us all have a clear understanding about what is happening during those time. When we talk as professionals in our PLC groups we will be looking at what the data shows us. There will be times that looking at schedules may be very helpful for our practice. Staff Discussion: "What we noticed"- Students far below benchmark in math were also know to be below benchmark in other academic areas. There were 10+ students in 1st grade at or above level. Several students identified with speech/language deficits were also significantly below benchmark. "Does the data suggest professional development needs?"- A need to develop understanding of a Math Workshop model that can help address specific student needs. Support for 2nd grade teachers to review targets for ending 1st grade levels to be sure their new students had these fundamental skills. Best practices and processes for math homework. 4. Next Steps:Angela will support 2nd grade teachers with review end of 1st grade targets and how to monitor. Ideas to pass along to "Math Minion Night" planning group= include a table of pre-school math activities. Invite student from vocational school who are studying early childhood education, to participate and possibly use that time for their community service. Include specific math games that target the early math skills the data demonstrates a need for. These games will be taught to parents and materials prepared for them to take home. I heard language about what "we" are going to do to support all students..There was no finger pointing or blaming....Thank you to those that have stepped up and offered professional development choices for our in-service days. We have a Taekwondo Tournament in MA that weekend but Friday we will be going to the Science Museum in Boston & LEGOLAND will be Sunday.I wanted to touch base with you to see if Lilly needed to do any homework for the missed school day.
