Little to no women make up the percentages of people with land rights, with about 10-20 percent of landholders being women in developing countries. In some areas, they are legally prohibited from owning land. This is especially an issue because owning land provides freedom and the right to make one's own decisions. When given land, women would usually own smaller plots of significantly lower quality.

Women have contributed to commercial agriculture and rural economies. This practice of agriculture has given women more opportunities in recent years. In developing countries, they make up 60-80 percent of food production. They cultivate as many as 120 plants alongside cash crops.

Despite women working approximately 12-13 hours more than men, they do not acquire nearly the same amount of money that men do. They then lack the funds to utilize sustainable agricultural practices or other methods and farming tools. Despite this, their income contributes to improving transportation, infrastructure, and health, achieving more improvements with their minimal income by over ten times.

Due to the low-skilled required jobs that women tend to be offered, it is difficult to assess and determine any statistics comparing the agricultural skills between men and women. Governments and international organizations clearly see that women are facing difficult responsibilities with lack of credit, however. Fortunately, in recent years, women are beginning to become empowered. In Guatemala, for example, they are being given more decision-making opportunities due to men leaving the agricultural industry.
