In the Bay Area, there are many people who have become homeless for several reasons. There are quiet a few organizations that work with these people in need of help, providing them with consistent meals for free. For example, at St. Anthony’s, volunteers prepare hot meals throughout the day. From breakfast to dinner people can get a sack lunch or a “hot meal.” Also, there are a number of food banks which distribute groceries weekly providing a more long term source of food.

Clean Water in the World

Lifewater is an organization where they raise money to provide clean water for poverty-stricken areas. Currently, they are raising thousands of dollars for Ethiopia, Cambodia, and Uganda. They have staff in these countries to ensure that the people receive clean and safe water.In addition to providing quality water, they make sure that the local area creates and continues a change in water access by using technology that can easily be managed and supplies that can be locally found.

A New Way to Wash

A basic routine of washing clothes uses about 30 gallons of water per wash. Although it is important to stay clean and crisp, we are using an immense amount of water on a daily basis without realizing it. The laundry detergent company, Method,is an eco-friendly product that benefits our environment. They reuse 80% of their packaging which saves plastic and energy. They also use “smartclean technology” which is a formula that allows the detergent to clean more clothes with a few squirts of detergent. Ultimately, this lessens the amount of daily water use in the household.

World Hunger

One of the most challenging problems we have today is hunger. There is enough food to feed everyone and the thought of zero hunger is “at our fingertips”. Sadly, there is still a lot that needs to be done for that to be removed from our society. On the bright side, there have been many theories and plans put into action to aid in this process. For example, food donation organizations have raised as much as sixty million dollars to help fight world hunger. Since there is a decently sized amount of people who live in urban areas, there has been a push for urban farming. Urban farming would motivate families to want to be in power of their own food sources.

Water in Our Goverment

In 1948, our country released the Federal Water Pollution Control Act. This later was ammended in 1972 and became the Clean Water Act (CWA). This enabled the use of pollutant control programs and maintained the standard of clean water in our country. This raised awareness of the importance of safe water in the United States.
