I actually had this written for images and retitled it after I made it that far.

I remember the first time I told my boyfriend I loved him laying in a hammock in Colorado and listed the reasons. I also picture the way I use a fittingly similar rhyme scheme when I say I love you to the moon and back and half.

The last few lines really gave me a clearer image, it made me think of a girl named Elizabeth I used to cheer with. She was a short adorable little native girl with long black hair, and always wore a knitted cardigan, iced coffee and copy of the bible in hand. She violently broke the hearts of 3 different guys in high school, but she was so sweet, how could she? One was my best guy friend, the other two was his brother and brother's best friend kinda like the way the poem says ' I love thee with a love I seemed to lose"

I picture the girl I mention in my memories, Elizabeth, on an airplane writing the pros and cons of dating John, my best friend, who's she's on her way to visit in California. The sunset leaking in through the plane window and she'd wipe her tears and laugh, crumple up one copy, write another and another until she made a flawless list.

I think I picture this because she was such a delicate cheerleader with her tumbling, the only one who never would rebound after stunts. She had a gentle voice and lost it after most games and would never go out for pizza with the teams after sunday night games because she had church in the morning.

I picture the speaker to be like my Elizabeth, but from the 19th century. Instead of in a notebook on an air plane, this Elizabeth is writing by candle light with an ink dipped pen in a high collared pastel lace nightgown.

A fluently writing lady of such would indicate to me she is educated, and romance is the topic of her writing. This would indicate to me she is a lady of some class, grieving over a recent love affair. Her feelings run deeper than her words give on to, pained with a choice (outcome?)

I'm not a religious person at all, but I loved the last lines of the poem (this is my favorite line) "Smiles, tears of all my life! - and, if God choose, I shall but love thee better after death" as if the author is saying this life is my limitation to my love. Or until death do us part. Like a modern (it was modern when it was written lol) twist on the traditional marriage speech. The authors other individual language choices such as "purely" and with a "passion" in such a short poem really depicts a vulnerable young girl with innocence full of pure beauty the author is truly highlighting and appreciating with this description.
