My PBL choice is project #1. Through this project, I feel that I can have more fun and explore more creative options when creating my tree in comparison to the other project. I would much rather do an artsy project like that than write an essay, so I think because I'm more interested in it I'll be able to do a better job than I would on a regular essay. So far, I think that I'm going to reserve time very early to interview my family. This is because if I get the interviews and planning out of the way, I'll be able to spend a lot of time on making my tree, rather than procrastinating. Other than that? I haven't put much thought into my tree design. Therefore, I think that I should do the 1st option because I think it will work out better for me.

The project that I decided to so is the Tree. I am really creative and I feel that it would be more suited for me. I am an okay writer, but nothing spectacular and I would also feel more confident if I was to do the tree. Also, it would be more interesting for me to learn about my family and their past with reading then learning about America's history. I would just be so much better at doing a tree. My family is from all over the world, and it would be really interesting to out how different cultures and different religions brought reading to people. I can learn about America any day of school in any of my classes, but this project can give me a reason to talk to my family and really connect with them. So after taking all of this information into account, I have decided to do the tree.

For my M#1 PBL I've decided to do the "My Family Tree: A History of Reading and Literacy" project. To be completely honest, I think I will have more fun with this project. I love learning about my family's history and experiences so this is a perfect fit for me. My aunt had an Ancestry.com membership not too long ago so I can talk to her and probably be able to get some good information and old pictures. I'm also more of a creative person so I think this is option will play more to my strengths. In regards to the other project, I'm not a huge fan of essays and they're not my strongest style of writing. Lastly, this type of research is more interesting to me. I’d rather talk to my family members about their reading history than researching America’s reading history.

The first reason is because i get to let out my creativity, and it will be more fun to do and create. Another reason i chose this tree project, is because i feel like i will learn more about my family's reading history, and what books they enjoyed. I can ask several family members many questions about their reading experience. y plan for this project is to write down a list of questions to ask my family and then right the down in cut out leaves and glue them on a tree. this project would be drawn and created on a white poster board.

I feel that it would be more challenging to me than the other. I always like to challenge myself. Another reason why I would choose the My Family Tree project is because it is more interesting. When the task I am working on is interesting, I put my mind to it more than if they aren't. I have records of my family tree going way back to King Author! In fact, my great (x7) uncle was knighted by King Author! Wouldn't it be interesting learning about your uncle that was knighted by King Author? I would think so, and that's why I am choosing My Family Tree PBL.

I plan to choose the History of Reading essay for the following reasons: Firstly, I truly love the world of literature and writing. I feel that writing as my MP1 PBL project would be a much better and more accurate representation of my creativity. Secondly, I have inquired to my relatives in the past about such questions that one would need to ask to complete the Family Tree assignment, such as what novels they liked as children and teenagers. In addition, I find the essay topic to be very intriguing. I have never put much thought into colonial education, therefore it would be very interesting to research it. --Kaleigh B

I am still certain about choosing the “Family Tree” project. This is my decision because I don’t want to spend a month on a project that is not fun. To me, writing a five paragraph essay is not the most fun way the I could be spending my time. However, I believe that interviewing my family about my history will definitely help me help me be able to learn more about myself and where I came from. This project will also allow me to express the organized side of me; I can color coordinate the poster, and have all of the pictures and information organized perfectly. Another reason why I think this option is better for me than the essay is because I am not the best at essay writing. Writing down the answers to what my family tells me more about my history, not someone else's information.

This will result in a project that best reflects my abilities.

Although I do like arts and crafts, I can only truly enjoy it when I know what I'm doing. I was pretty confused when reading the directions for the first PBL. Also, the one that I chose has a topic that I like more, (public education rather than "history of your family's relationship to narrative reading"). I feel like I can actually research public education, whereas I can't research my families ties to narrative writing. Overall, I just like the essay more.

My choice for the first marking period project would be the My Family Tree: A History of Reading and Literary Launch Unit Project. The first reason I would still choose this choice is I think I feel most comfortable with this choice. What I mean comfortable is I feel that this is going to be an easier project for me. On the other hand, I don’t really like essays and I feel like this would be a little more intense for me to do. Another reason why I would choose the Family Tree Project is because we did a similar project like this in 7th grade. Instead, in 7th grade, we wrote about our academic achievements, and etc. I would now be able to get the jist of this project and understand it easier. The third reason why is because I think it would be fun and enjoyable. This is because I will be to get back to the origins and talk about my family’s history of reading. I like to interview people and write about my family.

I would rather do a project on something I know better, and that is about my family. I also feel that it would provide some sort of challenge when I am working on the project. The History of Literacy seems like a very boring topic to cover just saying everything about Literacy way back when. I remember my grandma had stored a bunch of books that she had read. Both my grandparents loved to read a ton. I think I know a lot about my family and their history of reading, and that's why i want to do the Family Tree.

I love writing, but I realized I'll get to write within my family tree project instead of doing an essay. Originally, I had mentioned that I'm creative, which I also like. Going along with that, the family tree lets me discover something about myself and my family. I learn with this project! I wanted a project that would let me explore new heights. Reading and writing is important to me. An essay isn't enough to show my feelings on this topic. As for my plans, I have information on my family and can easily interview them. My tree is going to be bright and colorful. I plan on conducting research within 1 to 2 weeks, followed by creating my visual. This gives me plenty of time. In summary, this choice lets me learn about my family and helps me express my creativity.

After looking at both choices, I am going to do the second option, the essay. I am choosing the essay over the family tree because I think that I would do a better Job on the essay than on the family tree project. For example, I am a very fast typer and I like typing. I'm not totally sure, but I believe that you are allowed to type the essay so this would be the better option for me. My plans for this project so far are obviously to do the essay portion. Also, I'm going to try hard on this to keep my grade up and to overall do a good job.

For my PBL, I have decided to write "The History of Literacy Research Essay" because the guidelines for the essay came across as more straightforward to me. I was not entirely sure how to incorporate some of the major questions in the Family Tree Project or how I would format the information I attained from the interview stage into the actual model. Also, I preferred the Research Essay topic and had more background knowledge regarding it and have already started forming opinions and answers to the questions asked. I probably would've rather chosen "Family Tree project" because I love working with family members, but the directions came across as vague. Whereas, the Research Essay gave me a specific structure to follow, where to include the answers to the questions, and still lets me unleash my creativity through writing.

For my PBL, I have picked option 1 because I feel it would suit me best. I feel I really know my family and I am very comfortable doing this project this way. I have no problem interviewing my family. I feel I would also enjoy this project even better than option 2. Doing the essay wouldn't be bad but I feel just doing this poster would fit me better and make me more comfortable.
