They were looking to reform their religion because they believed that although the Church of England has reform, it was still the Church of Catholic.

The Salem Witch trials started after a young girl who was possessed by the devil declared that several local women were also possessed. After her declaration, the village went crazy, They hunted and killed anybody who was suspected to be a witch. Women were mainly accused, but men were also killed. It was believed that certain people had the ability to contact the devil for power to harm others. Plus, the Puritans were afraid of change or outsiders. So they executed anything that was out of the ordinary.
HISTORY editors. "Salem Witch Trials." The second part is Edward making ten points about God, religion and sin. He says it is God alone who chooses whether a person goes to heaven or hell.
