The fugitive slave clause also was a right given to slave owners to reclaim escaped slaves. Even if they made it to a free state.</div>]]></description>

In his speech, he explains that the purpose of celebrating the 4th is to celebrate the freedom and independence the people now hold. This freedom only is given to certain people based on something they cannot control. They all celebrate what many do not have.</div>]]></description>

         <title>Dred Scott v. Sanford, Supreme Court</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Dred Scott was a slave owned by Dr. John Emerson and his wife, Eliza Sanford. Emerson took him to the free states Illinois and Wisconsin, where he met his wife. Scott also met his wife, Harriet. Ownership of her was transferred to Emerson. When Emerson died, ownership went to Eliza. Scott sued for his freedom and lost. Eliza was later married to an abolitionist, and he sold Scott and his family to the son of his original owner, Peter Blow. Scott and his family were freed in 1857 and Scott died in 1858.</div>]]></description>

The Confederacy was fighting for the rights to own slaves, while the Union were abolitionists. 620,000 soldiers were killed during the war, making it the costliest war in American history. Eventually, in 1865, the South surrendered.</div>]]></description>

She states that she is never treated with such respect, even though she is a woman too.</div>]]></description>

Anthony was one of the most famous of the activists. One of her main arguments for her claim is that giving women the right to vote will only increase the amount of white votes. Susan B. Anthony died in 1906, and never saw women get the right to vote.</div>]]></description>

Women took care of the house and children, which was as difficult as going out and getting a job. Everyone should have their right to the pursuit of happiness, as stated in the Constitution. </div>]]></description>
