Natural Resources

Central Africa is extremely rich in natural resources and should be wealthy, but they are not. Central Africa's resources include copper, gold, diamonds, natural gas, oil, minerals, coal, and aluminum. There are also a lot of trees that can be cut and used for wood and to make paper. Huge corporations need Diamonds in order to fulfill orders for jewelry. The Central African Republic has the most diamond resources. Hydroelectric power is a large market in Congo due to the presence of the fast-flowing, Congo River. Hydroelectric power is energy obtained by forcing water through engines that in turn produce energy. Oil is found off the coast of many of these countries as well as on land. Oil is used to create gas which in turn can power planes and vehicles.

The economy of Central Africa mostly relies on the resources from the DRC which includes copper, forests, diamonds, and the Congo River which provides hydroelectric power. This river alone produces electricity for the DRC and the surrounding countries. Tourism is also big in Equatorial Guinea and São Tomé and Príncipe because they are both tropical islands. Because of the may different natural resources found throughout the land, the giants rainforests with the Congo river, and the many tourist attractions in the two tropical islands.

IN the south there is a large amount of rainfall of 70 inches, and in the northeast there is a rainfall of only 30 inches. There are a lot of floods in this area. There is also a very hot and dry season from April to November.

Central Africa is Dominated by rainforests in the Congo Basin. The fertile landscape of Africa is here. Surrounding the Rainforest is a layer of woodland that is home to animals and many people. The Congo Basin creates the rain forest and due to the lack of a basin on the outer layer it is a forest. The Congo is along the equator. The equator has a hot and humid season yet it lacks a dry season this is mirrored by the opposite region on the other side of Africa. Due to this climate when rain falls it does not dry up, this also increase the rainfall in this Region. The southern part of the region is home to grassland. The Geography here is made up of hot plains with a variety of animals. There is also farmland spread around the region. In the eastern part of the DRC is Mt Nyiragongo which is Africa's second most active volcano. This mountain is 11,400 ft tall. The congo River flows through the DRC and it is the second largest river in Africa and in the world. It also holds the deepest river on the planet. The DRC uses the congo for hydroelectric power which powers the Congo Region. Central Africa has many landscapes and geographic features that make it unique to Africa and to the World.

Conflict

Like most of Africa, central Africa has much conflict. The ongoing Central African Republic Civil War started in 2012. Rebels from the Seleka coalition attacked government forces. Like most rebels, the selekas use hit and run tactics to disrupt the government rather than to commence an all-out attack. There is also a conflict taking place in the DRC where fighting between it and nearby nations is being influenced by outside companies. The other countries want resources. These companies have a business interest in the outcome. These conflicts have an increased rate of casualty infliction due to the use of modern weapons. http://www.globalissues.org/issue/83/conflicts-in-africa
