How are the themes of Challenge, Choice and Outcome explored in Falling from Grace? by Paige Armao

A theme is the main message or big idea in a story. It's what the story is really about, beyond just the plot.

For example, a theme could be friendship, bravery, or overcoming challenges. It's something the characters learn or something the author wants us to think about

Orla (Choice)

The theme of choice is explored in many different ways in Falling from Grace. It's explored by having characters choose between stuff that later in the book will have a consequence. For example, Grace has to choose between saving the penguin or leaving it and listening to Annie and climbing up the hill.

Mitch 7C

All of those themes come into falling from grace perfectly for all different characters, some themes are more useful than others at different times and thats what makes this book so good. You cant just put every theme into every part of the story, you have to search for the perfect moment and in this book once you find that moment it is amazing. It is so clear that it is there with all of the low and higher action parts of the story, usually in some of the main parts of story is where you find lots of challenges, the characters having to make a choice or the outcome of something that has happened earlier on in the book or maybe hasn't even been seen in the book but has just happened in the past. To make it even easier there is sections of the book that only the main character is in and that has an even better chance of that character to have a main bit on the whole storyline

Theo Blakeley

There are three main Themes in Falling from grace being Challenge, Choice and Outcome.

Some other themes could be Relationships (Family's, Friendship's etc.) Bravery ( Overcoming a fear or something they've been afraid of.)

There is a lot of use of Themes of falling from grace. I'd say about all of the characters come across a Challenge, Choice and a Outcome. Say how Kip and Grace had lots of Challenges like trying to find grace or trying to be perfect or being afraid to do something. They also over come Choices which end up leading to and Outcome which can be good or bad.

Many of the characters face difficult times during the events in Falling From Grace. One of many examples could be when Annie goes through many mental struggle, she feels as if Grace was her responsibility and as if it was her fault for her disappearance.

Ike (Responsibility)

I believe a big idea of the story is responsibility. They all have to face new responsibilities and make responsible choices. Kip has to make a choice of owning up and facing his responsibilities when the police ask him questions. Annie has to step into Grace's responsibilities and temporarily become the oldest sibling/the one that takes care of Simon after Grace goes missing. Ted had to face his parental responsibilities near the end of the book after we find out he's Davids dad and he starts to be a better father figure to him.

Calvin (TRUST)

I think that the themes are explored through trust, sometimes trusting someone can be questionable, like Kip's relationship with Ted, whereas in other scenarios, trust can be good. Grace and Annie's first appearance gives us an example for this, Annie trusts Grace, and vice-versa, this came in handy when they had squabbles with the ways to return back to he carpark. In the end, they all are none-the-wiser.

Archie Taylor 💅

there are many themes in falling from grace and all of them are different even if some of them are a tiny little detail from the next. The themes like outcome challenge and choice, shape the story falling from grace like choice shows how the story has all of these characters that have their own personality and perspective. Challenge shows how they all go through there own challenges and problems but they make their way through. And outcome shows how they all find a way no matter what

Kye (Challenge)

Challenge is shown in a lot of occasions E.g. when kip saw the kid out in the sea on the boogie board he could have just let it go. He could not have made his parents think he was trying to be a swimmer again but he is a very good and thoughtful person so he did the right thing and tried to save the boy. He also faces challenges when his parents are saying that 'Kip is just taking a break from swimming or he's just sitting out over the holidays not Kip has stopped swimming or Kip has decided he wants to stop.

There were various challenges taking place, including Annie and Grace trying to find a quicker way back to the beach or when they found the penguin and Grace wouldn't leave it behind. Another could be everyone searching for Grace for multiple days on end. Jane Godwin strategically used different writing techniques like leaving us wondering after Grace fell off the cliff. All together this book was very good and had all the themes of choice, outcome and challenge.

mila

I think the overall message of the text 'Falling From Grace" is being responsible. All characters in the story face some kind of challenges where they have to figure it out and take some sort of accountability. For example, Kip has to take resposibility and not make a fool of himself as he's under suspicion of the police. Annie has to take on Grace's responsibilities on top of her own for the time Grace is lost.

Esther

The theme of choice was explored in text Falling from Grace through the characters. The main characters, Kip, Annie, Grace, and Ted all made crucial choices that substantially changed the story line and had consequences later on in the book. For example, Grace deciding not to listen to Annie was a major choice in the book as it the book was sculpted around this event. Another example is when Kip and his friends stole the girls bra and at first it seemed irrelevant to the story, but we later learn that this choice had a big impact on how the police and public perceived him, not only as person but as the prime suspect.
