Is the digital currency the future of our money? It is not really simple question, and there are many different opinions about this new type of currency.

In my personal opinion, time for digital money hasn't came yet for a couple of reasons. Firstly, according to statistics, only a few countries in the world officially started creating the laws and standards which should be used for digital currency transactions (if we are talking about crypto currency). And it is quite obvious. The point is that it is very difficult to control this type of transactions. Crypto currency was created especially for user's privacy and safety.
This fact creates paradox.
How to control the currency which was created with purpose not to be controlled. Most part of the governments hasn't given the answers to this questions yet. There are not so many specialists in the world which can create this laws. That's why we have so much difficulties.

On the other hand we have many advantages of using crypto currency. First of all, independent transaction system which is barely impossible to forge. All transactions are clear and anyone can check where is the money. Secondly, digital currency is much more comfortable and faster than classic fiat money, all personal transactions can be confirmed by one personal wallet without huge amount of paperwork and human labour.

To sum up, I would like to say that digital currency is very ambitious and perspective project. But, unfortunately, world is not ready now for it (in my personal opinion).

Sources: https://www.investopedia.com/terms/d/digital-money.asp#:~:text=Digital%20money%20(or%20digital%20currency,money%20is%20the%20cryptocurrency%20Bitcoin.

Daniel Buladi

In my essay I would like to discuss pros and cons of digital currency and to understand the near-term prospects of electronic money. Digital currency is any currency, money, or money-like asset that is primarily managed, stored or exchanged on digital computer systems, especially over the Internet.

When we talk about digital money the first thing that comes to mind is Bitcoin. In 2008, it was a completely new digital currency, which was called a cryptocurrency, that does not allow third parties to track user' transactions. That is why people, especially criminals, are still using Bitcoins for money laundering, financing of terrorism, buying weapons and drugs, etc. Due to a special cipher, security services cannot track either the sender of funds or the recipient. Another disadvantage of crypto currency is high volatility. For example, at the beginning of 2020, Bitcoin was trading around 5000$ for 1 coin. In the first quarter of 2021, it cost 60000$, and now it has lost about 23% of its value. Bitcoin isn't supported by any government and banks that is why only Bitcoin holders determine the cost of it.

At the same time cryptocurrency has advantages as well. Firstly, crypto platforms work around the clock that means a person can easily transfer a large amount of money on a holiday at night while it will not be possible to do this through a bank. Secondly, commission fees do not depend on the amount of cryptocurrency that users transfer inside the system. This is definitely a plus for large investors.

It seems to me that in the next 5 years, central banks will be able to introduce cryptocurrency into money circulation, correcting all its shortcomings. However, who will use cryptocurrency if it loses its main property of transaction privacy.

References:
https://www.eastasiaforum.org/2021/09/07/the-digital-renminbi-and-the-rise-of-central-bank-digital-currencies/
https://www.theglobaltreasurer.com/2015/05/27/digital-currency-pros-and-cons/
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Digital_currency
https://www.quora.com/What-are-the-pros-and-cons-of-digital-currency

Nowadays the idea of central bank digital currency (CBDC) is still only a concept. A concept, which has spread around the world very fast and a lot of countries today are thinking of the way how to realize this great idea. However, is it really as great as it is considered to be?

The most significant advantage of the digital currency is that it will allow people to transfer their money much faster. As we all know, it takes pretty much time for banks to move money from one bank to another. Digital currency can be moved in no time. Moreover, people will have a round-the-clock access to this new type of money and make transactions any time they want, not depending on the working hours of a bank and the day of the week.

However, there are some not less obvious disadvantages of the digital currency. Firstly, it is very difficult to realize this idea in such a way that people could make money transfers offline. Secondly, CBDS is still only hypothetical. If the idea is realized, computers will have to solve complex equations to verify and record transactions. This takes considerable electricity and gets more expensive as there are more transactions. Finally, nobody knows yet if the digital currency will behave like cryptocurrency: will it be able to lose 20% of its value in one day or not?

All in all, despite all the disadvantages, today at least 80% of central banks are researching this technology. Remember how fast the internet has become an essential part of our lives. Thus, I can definitely say that we should expect the appearance of the CBDC in the nearest future.

Sources:

https://www.forbes.com/advisor/investing/digital-currency/

Nowadays, more and more countries are beginning to legalise the use of digital currency. Officially, the first digital currency was Bitcoin which was created in 2009 by unknown guy who call himself Satoshi Nakamoto. All digital currencies have a list of pluses which other currencies do not have.

First of all, it is impossible to track the transfer of digital currency from one wallet to another. Also, it is impossible to stop this transfer so that if it was send, nobody could intercept it. The encryption method can be described of as a black box that accepts a semantic message as input and converts it into a messy noise that contains almost no information about the original message. Secondly, it is really hard to steal digital currency from the wallet because it have a high level of protection. As a user of the most common wallet, I can say that to withdraw money you need two confirmations via email and mobile phone and also you need to write a list of twelve words in a special order. If all you money is on HDD, you have only ten attempts to guess password and if all of them are incorrect, HDD destroys.

However, everything have another site. Their biggest disadvantage of digital currency is their volatility. They all connected to USD and their exchange rate changes every minute. Also, some people use digital currency to steal money. A lot of people don’t know how this works so that they are a target for scammers.

If to talk about the question, I want to say that digital currency have some opportunities for future development, for example, it can be used as an online payment method. Recently, Salvador made Bitcoin as an official currency of the country and some countries are already discussing about doing the same. However, it is impossible to use it as one currency for all countries because of its high volatility and connection to USD. In fact, all digital currency is just speculative thing for traders.

Links:
https://postnauka.ru/talks/82275

Is the digital currency the future of our economy? A central bank digital currency (CBDC) is a virtual format of a fiat currency for a specific country. This is an electronic record of the official currency, which is issued and regulated by its currency authority. The Bank for International Settlements's (BIS) survey showed that 80% of central banks study CBDC. In order to understand how the digital currency will influence the economy, we should consider its advantages and disadvantages.
In terms of advantages, the first is the potential for a more efficient payment system, in which the costs of managing funds will be lower. Secondly, there is an opportunity to expand access to financial services, because consumers will not need to have a bank account to store CBDC. Moreover, the digital currency could lower barriers for new firms to enter the payment sector. Another important advantage will be the ability of the Central Bank to track any transactions and transfers, which will help struggle with illegal transactions.
The essential disadvantage of implementing a Central Bank digital currency will be high costs of using a lot of powerful computers and some other devices. Secondly, the development of completely new type of currency that works with innovative technologies means that all financial institutions and consumers will have to adapt to new requirements. Moreover, as the Central Bank controls all money transfers, citizens likely will have less financial confidentiality. We should not forget about the difficulties with making laws, which will regulate relations related to using of digital currency.
All in all, I think that in the future the CBDC will become the main municipal currency in many countries and even international one, but this will not happen soon.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Central_bank_digital_currency#Implementation
https://www.investopedia.com/terms/c/central-bank-digital-currency-cbdc.asp
https://www.ledgerinsights.com/imf-pros-cons-central-bank-digital-currency-cbdc/
https://discovered.com.ua/blockchain/chto-takoe-kriptovalyuta-prostymi-slovami-vidy-plyusy-i-minusy-kriptovalyut/#q4

Digital currency is a form of currency that is available only in digital or electronic form and can be used in the same way as physical currency (to purchase goods and pay for services). Nowadays the idea of central bank digital currency (CBDC) is becoming more and more popular. Quite many countries are planning to issue their digital currency in nearest future. So, what are the pros and cons of this initiative?

There are quite many advantages of electronic currency. Firstly, digital money allow you to make payments faster than present payment systems, it also becomes less costly to make different transactions, because fees aren’t as high as they are today. Secondly, at any time transactions at the same speed, as with digital currency there is no need to wait for the confirmation of transaction from the bank.

However, there are several disadvantages. First of all, even if physical wallet isn’t required to store digital money, you need at least secured Internet connection to use money you have. Moreover, digital currency is quite vulnerable to hacking and hackers can the money you have from your online wallet.

To sum up, I personally think that despite the disadvantages CBDC may become real in next few years.

Sources:

https://www.securities.io/what-is-a-digital-currency/

https://www.investopedia.com/terms/d/digital-currency.asp

https://www.forbes.com/advisor/investing/digital-currency/

Digital currency has become the hot topic for debates in recent year. Some people think that digital currency is the future of our economy, while others disagree. They claim that using this type of money is inconvenient and useless.

In my opinion, people need more time to understand the benefits of using digital currency, but this money is the future of our world. To begin with, if you want to buy something expensive, for example a new car, you can make a transaction immediately with digital money unlike cash, for which you have to spend time to get. In addition, you do not need to pay a fee for using your own digital currency in contrast with other money.

However, there are some cons to using digital currency. Firstly, it is very risky. You never know how the price of coins will change, it can go down extremely fast and you will lose your money. Secondly, from the above point we understand that a person need to study a lot to learn how to manage this type of money.

In conclusion, although there are pros and cons of using digital currency, I still believe that this money will development very quickly in the near future and after a while, we will give up cash.

Sources:

https://www.800loanmart.com/additional-topics/pros-and-cons-of-using-digital-currency/

https://www.forbes.com/advisor/investing/digital-currency/

https://www.prescouter.com/2019/11/disadvantages-of-cryptocurrencies/

Nowadays our world always in constant motion:new technologies, new knowledge, new opportunities. People modernize different spheres of our life life every day. One of the most important and complicated parts of these modernizations is digital currency.
When I firstly heard about digital currency, I was confused as I didn't understand how would it work. After I'd read a little bit more about this renovation, I understood that there are many advantages in using digital currency in central banks. The present concept of using CBDC (central bank digital currency) was directly inspired by cryptocurrency such as Bitcoin, but the digital currency is declared by the government. The main advantage of using CBDC for central banks is easy way of emission of national currency. Also, this modernization will reduce the load one central banks. Last, but not the least advantage of using digital money is that each currency will be independent from others currencies.

Unfortunately, there are some disadvantages in CBDC. Firstly, the level of confidence of using this type of currency. All information about money and people will be downloaded to the main system and scammers will have an opportunity to get access to all confidential information. Secondly, the volatility of money will be very high. The price will change right quick.

In conclusion, I would like to point out that CBDC have big future. But inventors of this modernization should pay more attention to problems like confidence and volatility to prevent any kind of danger.

https://www.investopedia.com/terms/c/central-bank-digital-currency-cbdc.asp
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Central_bank_digital_currency
https://www.rbc.ru/crypto/news/5f8d3b969a79476f9367c839

There has been a lot of discussion about digital currency in the past year. It is not something radical in the modern world, because people already use electronic transfers, mobile payments and other technologies in their everyday life. Central banks are developing their own product and it can be released in the near future.

Сentral bank digital currency (CBDC) has the edge over cash and non-cash currencies. First of all, it is more secure. It is much more difficult to steal money when it is assigned by a centralized system to one person. Besides, CBDC is available everywhere so you can use it at any time. Transfer operations are faster and the tariffs for their implementation are lower.

In addition to all of the above, digital currency is characterized by transparency of payments. It gives a large amount of information about users to the central bank. This can be dangerous, as it can increase state control. It may cause mistrust by citizens, which will make it difficult to roll out the system.

To sum up, CBDC will be a good alternative to current currencies. There are still many stages of work, such as drafting legislation and testing on pilot groups, but If there are no serious problems, it may soon appear in our lives.

Sources:
https://podcasts.google.com/feed/aHR0cHM6Ly9yc3Muc2ltcGxlY2FzdC5jb20vcG9kY2FzdHMvMTEwMDkvcnNz/episode/OTVkZGUwZjktMTk1Yi00ZGRjLTlmNTctOTYxOGE5NTM5MGY5?sa=X&ved=0CAUQkfYCahcKEwi41erDwfXyAhUAAAAAHQAAAAAQAQ
https://cbr.ru/StaticHtml/File/112957/Consultation_Paper_201013.pdf

The world has seen many different innovations throughout the years. Plenty of them met and even exceeded their expectations, whereas some others turned out to be a failure. The one thing that never changes is that people are always skeptical about any invention. The same is with the usage of Digital Currency in central banks. The reason for this topic to be disputed so highly is understandable.

In my view, Digital Currency could actually be used in central banks for a number of reasons. To begin with, it is the future and cash constantly loses its value. One of the advantages for CBDC is the Technological efficiency: instead of relying on intermediaries such as banks and clearing houses, money transfers and payments could be made in real time, directly from the payer to the payee, which reduces risks, complexity and transaction fees. Another positive point is preventing illicit activity: A CBDC makes it feasible for a central bank to keep track of the exact location of every unit of the currency (assuming the more probable centralized, database form); tracking can be extended to cash by requiring that the banknote serial numbers used in each transaction be reported to the central bank. This tracking has a couple of major benefits: tax collection (which makes tax avoidance and evasion much more difficult) and combating crime (makes it easier to spot any financial crime activity and return the stolen money to the victim).

On the other hand, some people are of an opinion that the cons of CBDC outweigh the pros. A significant drawback is Centralization: Since most central bank digital currencies are centralized, rather than decentralized like most cryptocurrencies, the controllers of the issuance of CBDC can add or remove money from anyone's account with a flip of a switch. Moreover, it is quite a challenge to tool up everyone around the globe as CBDC requires their users to have the appropriate devices and it is fully relied on the stable Internet connection.

To conclude, I believe that this invention could be seen in the nearest future, however people need to do some more research on it and run beta tests in real-life situations before officially launching it.

Sources:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Central_bank_digital_currency

It is hard to give a quick answer so let us draw out on this issue and try to understand how it can look like.
Although digital currency is relatively new thing in economics it is explored enough to talk about its pros and cons. The first problem people face when they want to start using digital currency is a barrier to entry. It is totally new type of money with totally new rules of creation, exchange and functioning as a whole what makes it not very popular with common men. Secondly, the obvious disadvantage of majority cryptocurrency is the fact that it is backed by nothing. That is why we cannot talk about its stability.
As regards a positive side of "new money", it is important to mention following points. The most famous advantage of digital currency is probably a speed of transactions. A very small commission is also a big plus. What is more, some types of cryptocurrency are not affected by inflation. All of these factors make e-money appealing for governments because it can be implemented in a national economy as a very useful instrument.
To sum uo, it is hard to imagine a wide use of digital currency but I am sure this use will be. We can see right now how some governments try to integrate this "special" currency. It is natural that these attempts do not bring the necessary results now but what will be further? I want to end wit the words of president's financial adviser Sergey Glazyev "the appearance of new type of money is extremely rare and marks a development of world economy".

CBDC(central bank digital currency) is a digital payment system operated by central banks. It is very interesting concept, And now, most central banks (more then 80%) research it.So, I would like to discuss the advantages and disadvantages of CBDC

One of the interesting features of CBDC is that the Central Bank can have direct access to the database of transactions of some persons and the ability to encrypt the data of others while maintaining their confidentiality. In this way, the central bank can track the correct spending of public money while protecting the data of individuals. In addition, direct access to all persons (no commercial banks in between) allows for more efficient money supply management that improves monetary policy.

But there are some risks of using CBDC.
First of all, the central bank can abuse access to transactions, neglecting the privacy of users. Secondly, it is very expensive. So, digital currency demands powerful servers, keeping of which brings great regular costs.

Despite the risks, I am sure we will see the CBDC soon, and I hope that the Central Bank will pursue a transparent policy that allows us to use all advantages of the digital currency.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Central_bank_digital_currency

Over time, new technologies appear, one of them is the Central Bank digital currency (CBDC), based on similar principles as bitcoin (blockchain, reliability and security). Nonetheless, this technology has its advantages and disadvantages.

One of the most significant benefits is efficiency. All money transactions, payments are made by only two participants. It means that there is no need for banks or clearing houses and transactions is absolutely direct from the payer to the payee. It makes transfers easier, faster and more reliable. Another advantage is preventing illegal activity. By CBDC the government can track the exact location of every unit of the currency. It allows to spot criminal activity, collect all taxes and makes offshore banking an unreported employment impossible for hiding finances from the CB or government.

Nonetheless, there are risks associated with CBDC. Firstly, central bank digital currencies are centralized, so the controllers of CBDC can add or remove money from anyone’s wallet. The citizens cannot be really sure that nobody from the management will steal their money. But the problem can be solved by decentralization of the system. Another drawback is dollarization. A well-run foreign digital currency could become replacement for a local currency.

To sum up, Central Bank digital currency is convenient and reliable system. Personally, I suppose that there are more advantages that disadvantages. Moreover, most of disadvantages can be solved. It makes me believe that Central Bank digital currency is practicable in the near future.

Sources:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Central_bank_digital_currency#Benefits_and_impacts

The new type of currency – the cryptocurrency – has been implemented into the world financial system not a long time ago. But what are the prospects of this currency? Should it be legalized and used by Central Banks in all the countries in the world or not?

To answer this question, we need to take a closer look at the pros and cons of the cryptocurrency. The first country to digitalize its currency was China: unveiled in 2019, the Digital Currency Electronic Payment began its trial in April 2020 and has been slowly rolled out in major cities including Shanghai, Chengdu and Beijing. The cautious introduction of digital currency makes it evident that the Chinese government is taking the DCEP project very seriously. Now we can observe the most significant pros of this decision: firstly, the long-term potential of the digital yuan will be its ability to subvert the power of the American dollar. Furthermore, digital wallets don’t require an internet connection to be accessed via smart phone. Other significant advantages of the cryptocurrency are its flexibility and transparency. Finally, the system offers rich potential for economic expansion, but the future plans for the internationalisation of the digital currency rely on how the domestic market adapts.

But still there are some drawbacks of cryptocurrency: it cannot compete with on the same level as players like VISA and Mastercard in terms of the speed of transaction; cryptocurrencies will be subject to cybersecurity breaches, and may fall into the hands of hackers, which is a significant disadvantage; price volatility, tied to a lack in inherent value is a big issue too; finally, there will be increased risk in investing in this technology.

There are a lot of countries which have already legalized the cryptocurrency: all countries of the EU, the countries of G7 etc. In my viewpoint, despite all the drawbacks the cryptocurrency is likely to be implemented into financial systems of different countries by the Central banks. But it is a matter of time: countries have a long way to go before the cryptocurrency is finally put into circulation.

Sources:

https://www.lowyinstitute.org/the-interpreter/china-s-digital-currency-takes-shape

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Legality_of_bitcoin_by_country_or_territory

https://www.prescouter.com/2019/11/disadvantages-of-cryptocurrencies/

People love discussions about digital currency, because digital currency is associated with high technological, denial, protest to the state, crime, and game on the big money on the stock market. People romanticize these things, but digital currency in our days largely almost doesn’t have the above. Today we talk about possibility introduction digital currency in system of central banks.

Let’s start with disadvantages. The most problem of this event it is weakening of the strength of monetary policy. It will hard to Government fight with volatility of business cycles. We will have all or nothing (I exaggerated, but the meaning is clear). Also, we lost stability in current, because crypto currency is high volatility and those, which will reflect dollar rate, will fall with dollar, because dollar will lose demand. And last but not least, some digital currency hasn’t record of people’s transactions and it will simplify money lauding, drags selling and other criminal activities.

On the other hand, transactions in digital currency are faster, cheaper and don’t have weekends and holidays. They don’t have barrier on transnational transactions. It can speed up the economy.

Сrypto currency was created as currency, where impossible to track a transaction. But in my opinion, it doesn’t will be in the future, because it doesn’t need for governments due to reason was writing above and in other homeworks of my classmates. I figure that the future of crypto currency – is transformation in fast and cheap analogue of bank deposit with usable service.
