I’ve began to be interested in Minecraft as I heard about “Mincraft Edu” a special edition for school, much cheaper than the standard one. I know pupils love Minecraft and I’ve tried to learn something about it through a beta version, but unfortunately the resources were only in English. So I’ve spent time (and 24€) to practice on the standard-italian version.

In senior primary school classes I have used Minecraft to measure the height of the buildings and the distances between different worlds the students have created. I didn't know Minecraft until my students were talking all the time about it. So I took advantage of that and did Maths and other subjects. In senior classes I haven't used it because it would be a distraction in my opinion. I prefer the students to use their rulers or sticks or cubes or other manipulatives in Maths. Later on, they can use Minecraft worlds and combine it with maths.

I know the game but I never think to a mathematical use. Minecraft models are built by cubes so I think it can be useful to teach multiplication of to study volumes of perpendicular polyhedron. I think it can be useful for student up to 12-13 y.o. or for special needs students. Minecraft lesson must be well structured, because it's easy to confound a learning time with a play time.

In my primary class my students spend a lot of time speaking about Mine craft and they spend a lot of time playing Mine Craft at home...I think I should offer them something motivating and challenging but different, some different chance and experience...to enrich them!

I use it only one time with the "Hour of code" and I think it is very interesting and funny for my students. Now I have known how many things students can learn.
I think my students can explore areas, , volumes, distances, fractions... I believe that a lot of Mathematical concepts can be taught through Minecraft, it's a funny way of Learning.
I think hese environments, based on the construction of games, can help develop Mathematical concepts but also develop different experiences and projects.
I used other similar tools and they were very funny and interesting for my students.

I heard about Minecraft for education and I had already explored some of the recourses that are presented. Area, perimeter (maximum, minimum), volumes, fractions are some of the mathematical concept that can be explored. They also mentioned the 21 st-century skills that can be worked: Assess and Reflect; Immersive Learning and Classroom Collaboration. I´m not very comfortable with games but it seems something else. Definitely an issue to return to!

Actually I never played with it, but my son looks like a great expert on it, judging by time he spend playing on it: maybe he can help me? Nevertheless I try sometimes to use smartphone games as an hook to a math discussion: my students were playing a lot with Clash Royale so I proposed to calculate time needed to recover from an upgrade of a mine. I had a couple of students that had a subscription and they used Minecraft for an eTwinning project. The game in itself helps to create a spacial 3D environment. It helps students understand the 3D world more naturally once they start building in it. I have never considered to use Minecraft for a Maths lesson, this is something that I would consider.

I never heard of it. There are so many things I don't know about new tools, that sometimes I feel no longer in step with current times. I will experience it in the classroom as soon as possible.

I never heard of Minecraft before. It is funny, but I think that many other tools are more interesting for teaching than this.

I think it is a very valuable tool for designing structures, solids. this could definitely fascinate students and bring them closer to design activities where they will be the main creators of the compositions.

5) It can be used to teach math, science, language arts and social studies.

To be honest I don't understand very well how does it work. I would be interesting but problably I would be better use it with students from primary education than with those that are in secondary education.
