Of the 17 hottest years to date, 16 have occurred during the 2000's. With the highest temperatures falling in year 2016. One scientist concluded that 75% of the warming that occurs is due to human impact. A strong El Nino is now subsiding, however, it is still thought that February and March of 2017 will be warmer than the norm.

El Nino patterns occur randomly in intervals of every two to seven years, and the one which just recently occurred was the largest of the century. So now scientists are observing to see how climate change affects El Ninos. And records of heat are expected to be broken as climate change continues.

He has assigned Scott Pruitt to run the EPA, and wishes to take back Obamas actions counter climate change.

California has made an effort to reduce greenhouse emissions, as well as 300 million companies in the U.S have called for emission reduction plans. It was stated that all of the factors that contribute to climate change are diverse, therefore, the U.S. response with be diverse as well.

Caribbean bats are capable of being studied for extinction rates because in the past 20,000 years nearly 1/3 of the bat population has died off. Leading the species to extinction.

When scientist tried to discover how long it would take the population to regain the amount of bats that it lost, it was clear that it would take close to 8 million years. It takes a long time to restore the biodiversity, especially given the staggering consequences of extinction.

For the first time, scientists have witnessed a "virgin birth" in a shark that isn't actually a virgin. Previously the shark had mated with a male and laid eggs, however, she was placed into a different tank without males and three years later, she laid eggs again.

Although she had been around males before, it was determined that their sperm wasn't stored because when the scientists test the baby sharks they didn't find enough genetic variation to support the babies being from two parents. After studying this case, it was concluded that there is no way for asexual reproduction like this to occur in mammals.

Numerous coral reefs have been destroyed due to the hunting of giant clam. The selling of clams has become a very lucrative business, however, the Hainan Province has banned the trade of clams and corals. Just last year the sale of clams reached $430 million.

These giant clams play a role in the filtering of pollutants in the water. By extracting these clams from the coral, large portions of the coal die off, and this isn't beneficial because the coral is a habitat for marine life.

Recent findings of two new phytoplankton have convinced scientists that they will play a role in the future ocean ecosystems. These phytoplankton were found to be more abundant in warmer, low-nutrient waters as compared to cooler, high nutrient regions.

After running multiple tests, it was determined that the first phytoplankton found was a completely new species of phytoplankton. However, the second phytoplankton is closely related to haptophytes, except it doesn't belong to a specific species or class.
