Seeking and building a romantic relationship with someone is challenging for several reasons. I noticed that Shaun takes things that Lea says and does very literally, which is commonly seen in people with ASD. Having someone like Claire can help Shaun understand Lea’s body language, and teach him about the three rules of flirting for example, is a great resource. I would tell Shaun that he is making great progress with his social skills, and to keep having open discussions with people he trusts when he doesn’t understand something.
