And some would arrive late But all were eager to learn.We started off with the Sun and Moon letters And then came the numbers and time.We managed to get our heads round these.But then the hard stuff arrived.We suddenly had a wake-up call.Not as easy as we thought With particles and pronouns, feminine and masculine our eyes wide open were brought.How much patience our teacher had When bombarded with all hands up! “But why… “But what…” But when…” Please, I don’t understand”We always sat in the same place And our peers we got to know.We exchanged exercises and notes For we couldn’t make it on our own.We all went there for one reason.A Maltese Level One Pass So, every word that Diane saidwe absorbed and cried and laughed.Halfway through the course,a stranger suddenly came.He said his name was COVID. Unknown to most of us, his fame .Covid completely changed our lives,The class in school was stopped!But Lifelong Learning adapted itselfWith everyone summoned on-line. Prompt!Some hiccups we had along the way But we all pressed on and on.Students and teachers and admin. alike. There was no time for a welcome respite.For some the challenge was great. “ Where are the Maltese letters”?For others it was an easy ride, with knowledge of the settings. Help! Help! Diane we can’t hear you.Alas! communications were down.But we pressed on, study, study, study.Then the exam came along.Don’t panic! Don’t panic! We will see this through.With guidance from our dear Diane.Which all became so true.And eight long months have passed somehow,Maltese, Maltese, Maltese.We made it guys, we reached our goal.With thanks to all concerned, who put it right for us to win, the stranger Covid, spurned.Each friend we made, and every lesson, tho’ hard at times , paid off. The memory of this most difficult year, will truly not be forgot.The hours we spent together, in school and on-line, Are within our mind, retained forever. A great experience that we will all remember.
