- Large families. It's seen as a blessing from God. The large number of children also provide labor for the farming enterprises.
- Groups. There are four main groups — the Old Order, the New Order, the Beachy Amish and Amish Mennonites. There is also many subgroups and different rules within all these categories. 
- Rumspringa. Rumspringa means "running around". It's the beginning of the age of 16, when youngsters socialize with their friends on weekends. Rumspringa ends with marrige. Even though Nick experienced depression as to loneliness he found hope from God.
Despite his complications, he has managed to become an author, musician, actor, and has hobbies including fishing, painting and swimming.
Nick is the president of the international non-profit ministry, Life Without Limbs.

The song is about equality. The song explains the unfairness of being different and not being able to change it even though you would want to. He explains being gay the most but he is also referring to all the other things that you cannot change.
Some things you just can't change. You can't change your race, sexuality and so on because it's something you're born with. He also mentions that people think it's a decision to be gay.
