Your family values. Your traditions. Tradition that was passed down from your ancestors. Religion. Basically a way that people of groups are taught to act in what their society thinks the norms are. 
Ethnicity- What your race is. Groups that share the same values and culture. 
Diversity- Diferent races and cultures mixed together to make a group of people.
Social class- A division of a society based on social and economical status.

It takes the focus of people being different a disadvantage (pg. 10). I really never have thought about making my classroom a multicultural education classroom until now. My thought of multicultural classroom is a classroom of different pictures of different families, other types of cultural food in my home center, ect. In my defense it is what I was told by my bosses that I have had. It to me know is changing the way I teach to accommodate each child's culture so that they can get the most of being in my classroom. 

Au said, " When he was in school he had a teach who was trying to teach them about a fruit in which was native to Au's culture. The teacher was pronouncing the name wrong and Au corrected him. The teacher then told him that he was wrong" (pg.84). To me I felt like that was telling the child that his way is wrong and it was belittling him in front of peers. We see this a lot unfortunately. What gives one culture the right to say another culture does not do things or say things right? 

As a preschool teacher it is somewhat difficult to find material that is multicultural. Most books and other things are based on "white" culture. The same could be said for standardized testing. Bigelow states "Standardization and centralization of curriculum testing is an effort to put an end to a cacophony of voices on what constitutes truth, knowledge, and learning and what the young should be taught" (pg. 128). To me there should be different testing for different cultures. Test of course being all of the same levels of education, but adapted to fit that culture.

I strive for my classroom to make the kids seem like they are at their home away from home. I place pictures of them and their families in my classroom. I think that I do a pretty good job at making the children more culturally aware. I do a trip around the world each year. I put together some of the language, we learn a dance in that culture, and we fix a food from that culture. It kind of tugged at my heart strings when I read what Negri-Pool said. She stated " that she could only recall one time in her history of being in school that her culture was validated" (pg. 247). I want to dig deeper in the way I do things I my classroom. Culture is more than how people dance, what they eat, and their language. I can see now where I was wrong, but I guess I really didn't know what culture really is. 

Native Prisoner's of War- Huey (2010) went in to the Lakota tribe and was not welcome at first. He stated" that he was known as the man who takes the best meat for himself or called wasichu (white)" . To me this story was very upsetting. These people lost their land because it was of monetary value. Land that they had possession 
of in a treaty. What make people think that they have right over a different cultures? To me everyone should have the same right and the human race is the norm, not white culture.

Gender Complexities-Killermann in his video said "Gender complexity- only two ways to describe every individual in the world. Boy play with certain toys, and girls play with others." I can say in my classroom I have had several dads get upset with me because they have came and picked up their son and they had dresses on. I have even been told that their son isn't allowed to wear dresses. My response to them isn't what they want to hear. I normal tell them that in my classroom the children are free to be who or whatever they want to be. I have even had children come back and tell me that their parent said they can't wear a dress. This is sad. Children like to pretend and in pretend does not make a child become a certain way. People should be who they want to be without other assuming they know them or casting judgement on them.

Mokobe in her video (2015) said that she thought she was broken so she prayed for God to fix her. What gives a culture the right to shun someone and make them feel like they are broken just because they don't feel like a girl when they are a girl? I felt sad and very upset .
