It was more dangerous because you have bullets and bombs coming straight towards you. You can die easily because you are getting shot at first because you’re in the front lines. The front lines are more dangerous because you might be put in a camp and be tortured with different instruments. They might torture you with socks, thumbscrew, Barbed iron collars and shackles. The front line is more dangerous and difficult than the home front.

It was more difficult during the Civil war to be a child on the front line of the battle. Evidence to support this would be from document B from Michael Dougherty and he says“We saw different instruments of torture,Stocks, thumb screws,Barbed iron collars, shackles, ball and chain. This is saying that living a life as a soldier can be horrible. There is also a chance that a soldier can get captured by the enemy and taken to these prison camps for until they die. Also when they are here they get little food, water, and many die within a day and there are bugs everywhere.
My 2nd piece of evidence would be from Langdon leslie Rumph saying “Measles,Typhoid Fever.” This shows that while they were battling they also have the problem of sickness. Also this makes it really hard to fight and many people die from this. With these two pieces of evidence it shows that being on the frontline and actually fighting is a lot harder than at the homefront. With the prison camps with the torture devices and the problem of sickness also affecting how people fight.People at the homefront are only experiencing the effect of battles and wars while the frontline are experiencing it first hand and with the comrades dying right in front of them. All around being on the frontline is a lot worse than being on the homefront

As a child, it was more difficult to live on the front line during the Civil War then the home front. The two men Michael Dougherty and John McElroy wrote journals about what they saw at the camps. “At various places (we saw) different instruments of torture. Stocks, thumb screws, barbed iron collars, shockles…” If these two men didn’t live on the front line they may not have seen these things. The people that live on the home front don’t see the differences things that are used for torture. Many people died but some had to suffer on the front line. “He had been in feeble health for four or five weeks and had just gotten over a spell of Measles.” This man had to suffer from Measles because of where he lived when he was only 16 years old. The people that lived on the home front didn’t suffer from Measles.Being a child it is better to live on the front line than living at the home front during the Civil War.

It was more difficult to live on the Homefront, as a child, during the Civil War. According to Carrie Berry, 10, “The shells get worse and worse everyday.” Carrie must be terrified to imagine the horrifying sounds outside her house. She might have family out there who could be dying in the war. Sounds would be very loud so they might scare her considering she is only 10 years old. And if the shells get worse and worse everyday then more people could be dying, and more loud sounds would get worse. “About the time a shell came over that way - they did not climb down but fall down.” It’s very dangerous for these children to walk outside because what this quote is saying is these children got hit by the shells and died. This shows how people could get seriously hurt around the town or near the battlefield. And if these people are getting hurt, or possibly dying then who would be taking care of businesses or anything at home? In conclusion, homefront is more difficult to live on as a child

As a child was more difficult to live on the front line during the civil war. In document “B” written by a 16 year old says “The gates swing open on their massive iron hinges and we marched in... various places [ we saw] different instruments of torture: stocks, thumb screws, Barb iron collars, shackles, and ball and chain. Our prison Keepers seem to handle them with familiarity.”This shows people were tortured a lot here. This is really scaring to a 16 year old to have to look at this is it only gets worse when you get older. He's not even very old and he has to witness this. When it says “Our prison Keepers seem to handle them with familiarity” it shows those torture devices were used a lot. Another reason the front line is worse to live on is that in document “C” Its telling a father that his son had measles and then got typhoid fever which eventually killed him. This shows that on the battlefield people get sick all the time and the sickness can kill them. They are already dying in battle but getting sick and then dying just adds to the mortality rate. In conclusion, the front line is worse than the home front because the front line had many deaths and had young children viewing an imaginable scenes at war.

As a child the front line was more difficult than the Home Front during the Civil war. I know this because in the text it says, “At various places (we saw) different instruments of torture.” This is good evidence because it tells how bad it was for children and that there was torture if the tortured wouldn’t talk.

It also says in the text, “I saw wounded men brought in by the hundreds and dead men stark on the field.” This is another good piece of evidence because it explains that there were wounded and dead men lying on the battlefield. To sum it up the war was worse for the Front line than the Home front because that could have been killed while in battle.

Living on the frontline in the civil war is harder than living on the homefront. “A great many of people. The prisoners are hopelessly crazy, starvation disease and vermin. These are the horror filled experiences the homefront soldiers had to experience. Them having to sleep by people who held deadly diseases was only a fraction of what they had to deal with.”The gates swung open on their massive iron hinges and we marched in at various places we saw different instruments of torture stocks, thumb screw, barbed iron collars, shackles, ball and chain. Our prison keepers seem to handle them with familiarity. This shows that if you get capturnes you are most likely die. Just for answers they will torture you and if you die they just make their pile of dead bodys even bigger. They don't care if you die they just want to know what your plans are.”Just gotten over a spell of the measles...With typhoid fever...He died in 5 days. This shows how unsanitary these encampments are and how they treat you if one person get sure it is sure to get many other people sick because you are always near someone and because there is so many people it is hard to keep good hygiene. All in all living on the front line is way worse than living on the homefront because it is more dangerous and a lot higher chance of dying living on the front line.

As a child, it was more difficult to live at home during the civil war because of family members being frieghtened for their loved ones and some were hurt and sick because their loved ones were hurt. According to Document C, it states that people were; “dreadfully sick”, “assassinated” and “no pleasure, no enjoyment”. This piece of evidence shows that people had hard times just like the people at war, but at home many people were unhappy and sick. According to Document B, it states that people and children were; “striving in vain”, “cursing”, “children stumbling, falling, and crying”, and “mothers anxious”. This piece of evidence shows that people were doing worse than people at war, and when at war, most soldiers got to celebrate Christmas with their other soldiers. While, people at the homefront were dying and suffering while at home too. In conclusion, the homefront was more difficult and worse because of the tough times while their loved ones were at war fighing and possibly dying, people on the homefront were very sick and unhappy.

They also had seen it all at too young of an age and were not ready to be be put on with all that pressure, not knowing if you would get seriously hurt, or even die. The things that they see can haunt them for life, and they need to still have a good childhood, if they jump straight into what seems like a nightmare, they may never have a normal, good life.

“..had just got over a spell of measles when he was attacked as his physician said, with Typhoid Fever. ” Langdon Leslie Rumph shows you that the suffering never stops, and right as you think that you are fine, and getting over something, the pain just happens again. The kids aren’t strong enough to have all this pain and misery put on them. Plus, it takes a long time to recover from all the sicknesses, and even when the war finally stops, they will be constantly reminded about everything they went through, just by looking down at a scratch, or still lying around sick.

The front line was more difficult to be living in as a child, because kids had to see things you were too young to see, and go through troubles that they weren’t strong enough to face.
