This is truly a challenging time, especially for front line workers. As a social work student, this pandemic has significantly impacted my learning, I was hoping to get a real feel of working on front line by working with service users, speaking to qualified professionals and learning on the job. However, working from home has limited my learning experience as I missing out on the practical side of things. It is down to various online applications that has enabled to continue working the best we can to stay in contact with service users and colleagues.

As a student virtual placement has meant that I can continue my learning at home. It has helped us to embrace change and look to new creative ways of learning. However, social work is a practice based profession, which to me means Interacting directly with people And learning from that interaction. I believe that I have not been able to learn much from case studies and theories.

The good thing about the placement is that students have been there for one another within the cohort.
Studying this way has been difficult and mind numbing, it has been hard to remain focused. Studying in isolation and trying to make link to practice with no practice has been difficult. I have struggled to learn from the case studies and have found it hard to reflect without real life experiences.
The things that could have been better were the support from the university as it just seems like they have left us to get on with the work with little input.
