Stock stores are powerful because they are often repeated until canonized or normalized, and those who tell them insist that their version of events is indeed reality, and that any stories that counter these standardized tellings are biased and therefor note credible (see also Chapter 1, “Who’s Afraid of CRT (and Counterstory)?”_/ Delgado suggests that counterstory as a methodology intervenes in stock stories told by the ‘ingroup’ that dismiss or decenter racism and those whose lives are daily affected by it. Counterstory then is a method of telling stories by people whose experiences are not often told. Counterstory as methodology serves to expose, analyze, and challenge stock stories of racial privilege and can help to strengthen traditions of social, political, and cultural survival and resistance” (33-34).
