In the digital age, newspapers still have a role in our society

OV1- The rise of technology has made it convenient when it comes to the provision of news and information. Ubiquitous in modern society(hard pressed for time hence important to have news on the go realtime update) that it is literally at your fingertips. Eg. Online copy of Straits Times, Channel News Asia
R- Lose/ Doubt accuracy of information especially when online resources capitalize on speed. Newspapers, however, undergoes a tedious/ rigorous editing process. Newspaper companies such as Straits Times rather than online media such as Wikipedia that can be edited by anyone that has access to the internet. News online could be credible but they are rather concise versus full article in newspaper. Newspapers are hence more reliable,informative and hence, plays a role in our modern society.

SV1- In our society, many have access to newspaper subscriptions. Electronic devices, although prevalent, are a much more expensive alternative that surprisingly, even for a developed country like Singapore, low income groups cannot afford it. Eg. SG internet penetration rate being 80% leaving 20% without using the internet.

SV2- The elderly in our society does not have much exposure to digital devices. Due to this, many of them face difficulties adapting to the use of devices to read news. Hence, they result to the traditional method of reading newspapers to obtain information about current affairs instead. Eg. 66% Elderly aged 60 and above without a smartphone --> no access to the internet
